Jake was never funny. His schtick was making milquetoast video essay content- literally content slurry- he has nothing to say. He's like if a blank sheet of paper was a person, but the paper is magically written on as you talk to it with whatever you're saying to it. And magic paper sounds really cool, but somehow, he makes it lame. I genuinely do not know what Chris was expecting by having him on.
 
I only watched them once, but I still remember just from hearing Jake's voice that he was not into some of Chris's verboten humor. I would be surprised if they still talk, he's only gotten more and more pozzed since then IIRC. The "Dobby is ripped" bit is pretty good though, led to a funny animation.

Jakey does terribly in any kinda live setting. It doesn't help that it's just Chris and Jakey in those videos. I've tried watching some of his streams and every time he's low energy and it's boring as shit.

I think JonTron single-handedly wretched Bubsy from the grave. Never really saw anyone else talk about it until after his video. The whole thing is purely irony based because it kept getting memed on.

I used to like him in like 2018-2020ish but everything he made became blurred together and I realized he was only trying to do that bombastic nice guy wholesome chungus 100 humor that is splattered all over Reddit, which is probably why he got so popular. Gives off “raised by a single mother” energy.

It feels like the same story as things like Birdemic. Someone makes garbage, the internet and content creators make fun of it, the studio/creator/etc. thinks "if people are talking about it, surely there's demand for another one, right?", and they make another one. Because it's self-aware to try and appeal to those people though, it winds up being soulless waste that can't even be laughed at anymore.

The "misunderstanding why people enjoyed it" thing is so common, I was literally just talking about one of my favorite old machinima series with a coworker about how great it was that whoever made it sounded like he was huddled over his shitty microphone with a blanket over his head so mom and dad wouldn't hear him almost-scream swear words:

However, at some point he went back and updated the series with re-recorded lines with a better microphone and higher quality video and it's like - bro, I see what you're doing, but we didn't love it because of the story you told, we loved it because of how shitty it was knowing any one of our friends could have made that.

It was attainable and hilarious and retarded, and there's no reason it needs redone as though it will be funnier the second time with better voice acting. Birdemic is the same way. The retarded story worked because of how bad the production and acting was while still being a sincere attempt.

It's like how there will never be a movie like The Room ever again because it was sincere in trying to be a compelling movie ,that's pathos were as films like Sharknado being tongue in cheek about them being shit doesn't work if you intentionally be so bad it's good.

I've never understood the bitching about Gex. In the realm of mascot platformers the ranking honestly is 1-Mario 64, 2-Banjo Kazooie and 3- Gex 2. It's not amazing but it's perfectly fine.
