Outside of some sort of epiphany from him which won't happen there is just nothing you can do besides visiting as little as possible honestly. MSM did a fucking number on lib boomers specifically and they are just going to continue to get worse I tried with family members but they live in a completely different world and really the biggest issue is just they had no idea how to NOT talk about politics.
Wish there was more to say but many people here have been through similar stuff in the last decade and it sucks every time you hear about it.
It’s bizarre to now hear people bemoaning their parents being brain dead liberals from too much MSM consumption because just a decade ago there were similar complaints about Fox News and AM radio making everyone’s older relatives republican hatemongers.
There was even a documentary about it. I’d love to see a similar documentary done on new crop of liberal boomers that the left wing media has produced. The tranny menace propaganda would be of particular interest.
I think this just demonstrates the outsize effect “news media” has on the people who consume it. Also people over 50 or 60 have a horrible habit of leaving TVs on, all day long. They’d be better off putting on music instead of propaganda and advertising.
I’ll echo what others have said, it’s stupid to argue politics with family. Family is a lot more important and deeper than the political theater of the day being fed to you. I cannot stress enough how absolutely cold blooded and calculated your typical politicians and political operators are - they count on the plebs getting all riled up and emotional about issues, you getting upset is their bread and butter, but it is strictly business to them.
These people are immune to reality and reason.
Politics has never been about facts and reason, which is why boring policy wonks easily get shoved aside and ignored. Emotion drives political behavior and opinion and inoculates many people from facts or reasoning - or I should say it inoculates against considering facts contrary to their preferred narrative.
It operates on both sides. People here still insist Vance Boelter (Christian prepper who preached against trannies and gays and loved Trump) was a progressive Democrat working for Tim Waltz. I’m sure you will still have people on the left convinced Robinson was actually secret MAGA chud regardless of all evidence, simply because he’s a white guy that liked guns. Both sides will ignore or dismiss facts if it doesn’t fit their preferred political narrative.
The left poisoned the well with their “feelings over facts” nonsense and anything could be a cardinal sin because feelings have been hurt, words are violence. They deserved to get their teeth kicked in for it imo. I’ve enjoyed the last few days of watching the left get “canceled” and their feet held to the fire after a decade of them harassing and ruining people for perceived wrong think, differences of opinion or a bad joke a decade ago.
