To be real if you want to see Canada future without immigration just look at whats going on in Japan at the moment. Their economy is imploding because they just don't have enough young people and the ones they have are being crushed under the taxes necessary to upkeep the state and the older population.
Right now each working Japanese person is supporting 2.4 retiree's. And it will only get worse as the Jap replacement rate is fucking 1.15. It's mostly due to their heinous work culture and weird ass social customs and it's become so bad that their politicians are breaking cultural taboo's and allowing the importing of Jeets as a desperate last gasp move to keep thier ecomony going.
Its a catch 22 situation in ways, to be honest. South Korea may be the better analogy in ways, comparable to the dichotomy between the US and Canada considering the population differences are similar enough between Japan and Korea.
To be fair though, its didn't have to necessarily be this dire of a situation. The ticking tax and social service time bomb is a real thing, mind you-
but here are a few things they could have done in the meantime to make things a bit easier.
a) Slower immigration, over a long period.
noone is denying that our population is dying out in ways, but please- don't bring in 1 million immigrants each year when we have a housing shortage
b) New housing
New housing, new housing, new housing. Before we even talked of immigration at this scale, we should have had government plans to ramp up our affordable housing (not Toronto Condos), to compensate for this in its own way, well in advance
c) Encouraged immigration from culturally similar nations.
Im sure there may have been some issues, but would rather have seen East Euros, South Euros, Filipinos, East Asians, or some Latin Americans (not venezuelans) than the Indians. Not a Christian nationalist, but t here is something in them tending to assimilate better.
d) Better overall situation for people on average before this:
Now for the past ones, this is how you do massive immigration, but even before that- make sure your own people are fine, or at the least youre not shitting down their necks.
To start with, the carbon tax? Youre already going to put a burden on the population, stop adding to the squeeze with climate shit.
Cutting down on oil drilling in Alberta? See the above, would love to have that invested in local industry or business, like Norway or the Gulf states did.
Encouraging local businesses? We fucked that one up with covid, and basically giving away our entire economy to mega-corporations, etc.
If you are going to attempt mass immigration, as least try to ease the populace into that and make sure we're not economically destitute
e) That finally leads to this one, before all this started- we needed more mobility, more opportunities for rising, an actual college system which worked or would have worked.
Maybe had we done all of these things in one way or another, we would have done much better overall.
