I think Ackman would be 100% justified in not paying out the killer's family. Charlie's blood is on that murderer's parent's hands too. They raised him.

I have a buddy in competitive shooting, and they regularly hit 4"x4" targets at 600 yards for competitions. Now, granted, these are with $5k+, custom built rifles, but even the open divisions where anything goes, dudes will hit 4"x4" targets at 300 yards with out of the box Savage bolt action rifles without much issue. If you know your gun, know your ammo, and sight the firearm in properly, even crappy rifles will hit a target that size pretty comfortably, and I have hit a 6"x6" target at 200 yards with a 1946 Mosin-Nagant rifle, using old military surplus ammo, with iron sights. So, if he was familiar with his guns, knew the distance, and took his time, this would be a very feasible shot. "The gun is more accurate than the shooter" is true for practically every rifle made in the last 125 years.

Keeping the rifle cool wouldn't matter. The firearm gets way hotter from firing, and while heat can affect accuracy, that is dependent on a lot of factors such as the thickness of the barrel, how hot it is (250 degrees F isn't that bad for a rifle being actively used), if the barrel is free floating, what round it is, what the twist rate is, etc. There are an enormous number of factors that go into accurate shooting at distance, and I have no even scratched the surface, but suffice to say, 200 yards is not that far of a shot and what this assassin did is quite achievable even by a relatively new shooter.

All the kids, women, and grandparents stabbed and shot that would have had the right mass appeal to emotion and sensibility that would’ve finally turned the tsunami back on the freaks and now the momentum’s going to slip because all of that was somehow less important than judeo-christian values aligned debate man.

They don't. But those that would like things to continue to escalate would like to use it as a scapegoat.

Basically, if they can find proof or astroturf the idea that the shooter was conservative/right/MAGA then the left/mass media apparatus can pretend this absolves them of all responsibility.

That's really all it is. Chickens are coming home to roost and the side that needs to pay the bill is desperately attempting to find any excuse not to pay up.

it's just a juxtaposition based off the recent political assassinations in germany and colombia, hence the calls for escalation of violence from people that would piss and shit themselves at the sound of a gunshot.

I personally think the father should get to keep it. Turning in your own son for this crime shows serious character and dedication to seeking justice, even if it guarantees you'll basically never see him at all, let alone as a free man ever again.
