You're 100% spot on. Nothing, nothing at all has changed. Only difference now is he thinks he's in his perfect fantasy land where everything just kinda works out like in the anime and vidya. That's also why the part of the Chibi cycle where he goes full doom and gloom will be that much more magnificent, this time it's in glorious Nippon, his dream fantasy land where anime always comes true, except it doesn't and now he can't even cope by telling himself it would be better if he was there.

He's not gonna get killed, go to prison, end up stranded and homeless. Whatever happens he'll eventually bounce back as tards like him always do. He's a teflon tard a lot like Chris. But for a time at least, Japan will break him, his fantasies will be shattered into a million pieces, and he will inevitably come home with his tail between his legs. Although he'll never care enough to understand why he should be grateful for it, his mom will be there to pick up the pieces before he ever has the chance to suffer and reflect on his poor choices that lead him there, and he will sulk and pity post before moving onto his next "life goal". He'll get a free ride back to America if he doesn't have a place to stay, so he's always got that as a fall back plan. As long as he's attempting to find/keep a roof over his head, the government will push him to try harder, but they won't take action unless they suspect he's lying to them about trying to find a new english teaching job or an apartment.

I want the Japan arc to last as long as possible, but I think defeat is inevitable and so I'm curious to see what direction his life takes after he returns to the US. Will this be his final arc? Is it nothing but mom's basement after this?

I know he'll try to play it off like no big deal and give it the 'at least I tried' shit, but I'm not sure he'll ever recover from the emotional damage of Japan being a colossal failure.
