Bystanders report seeing Kirk shot near his neck during a Q&A with students.

A suspect is in custody, according to a UVU alert sent to students. The campus is on lockdown.

I really don't see how detaining people at a tropical resort and former airport is cruel. They get free food, free AC, free beds, beautiful tile flooring, free security, and they're literally miles from Disney World. Your average soldier would kill for a setup like that.

Personally, I'm fine with some gallows humour. I knew someone who, mere hours after the Sandy Hook shooting, asked, "So is that a m-m-m-m-m-monster kill?", and it got a chuckle out of me. I can enjoy the joke because it wasn't hatred towards any of the victims or condoning Adam Lanza. Furthermore, I can see people being critical of those who are in the midst of committing a crime being killed for it.

However, this was an assassination against someone who was simply debating in public. I despise Joe Biden, but had he been killed at a rally I would still be appalled at their detractors for gravedancing.
