Charlie Kirk was shot at an event at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah on Wednesday.

Bystanders report seeing Kirk shot near his neck during a Q&A with students.

A suspect is in custody, according to a UVU alert sent to students. The campus is on lockdown.

The FBI confirmed it was a bolt action rifle.

They have CCTV footage of the suspect entering the building and then exiting by jumping from the roof and fleeing into local neighborhoods. They recovered a bolt action rifle from nearby woods. They canvassed nearby neighborhoods to see if they could obtain further footage of the suspect. They said they obtained a foot impression, hand print, and forearm impression. They said they're confident that they can identify the suspect but that they'll reach out to the media if they can't.

they also said the suspect was college-aged.

I think right now comedy central may ne regretting giving them the contract. The plan was obviously to go as outrageous as possible, find the line where Trump would threaten to sue, then use that as the crux of the season. I think this might end that plan.

Because lets be real, Kirk should have never been hurt. If I had to guess, means the guy probably wasnt on their radar either. Semi auto probably perks up an eyebrow way more then an old ass bolt action.

I wasn't aware that being saddened by an appointed high office holder's death precluded appointing a successor. And no, I never took the position that such appointments shouldn't be made close to an election. Any president should take any opportunity to appoint a Supreme Court justice. Obama didn't have 50 votes in 2016 so it was kind of pointless and silly anyway. Trump did have 50 votes in 2020

This is the key thing that all the "the jeets at FBI haven't got him yet?" crowd is totally not getting. Geofencing has to be configured for the immediate site, then expanded to include the radius of potential weapon ranges, and from there expanded forward and backward in time. While much of this process is aided by automation, every expansion of that geofence can add large amounts of mobile handsets by some exponential degree, and then the vast majority of them must be eliminated from the suspect list, and that step requires humans in the loop, which can take a long time, depending.

To follow up, they apparently found the murder weapon, bolt action rifle, in a wooded area nearby. They have a shoe impression. They have a picture of the suspect's face (college kid). His days are numbered, my guess is he will commit sudoku and they'll find his body.
