Bystanders report seeing Kirk shot near his neck during a Q&A with students.

A suspect is in custody, according to a UVU alert sent to students. The campus is on lockdown.

No, and especially not at 200 yards. A pellet rifle, and that one is pretty inexpensive, would also not shoot accurately enough. In my opinion Kirk received quite a jolt when the bullet entered his neck, implying more energy than could be delivered by most air rifles. Even 22lr is unlikely. I doubt it was some huge bullet, though, so maybe .223 is still most likely.

Some of my college friends are stunned by this, and my family (parents and siblings included) are pretty devastated. Despite not totally agreeing with Charlie's support of Israel, my sister at least realizes that Charlie is a man deserving of dignity and respect. He and his family did not deserve this.

I am filled with anger, disgust, sadness, and other mixed emotions. I never thought that I would feel such emotions for this dude (I never really cared for him), but I do somehow. Perhaps, these emotions stem from the fact that this man of moderate politics was murdered in cold blood for being too right-wing. If they are willing to shoot someone with extraordinarily milquetoast political beliefs, what would they do to us? What is our fate if they take power?

We need to cross the Rubicon now, or we will be shot in the streets.
