i've seen several other mentions of this tf2 goldrush mod, and there's a lot of hopium around it for the "old tf2" fuckery. how is it better than just using a server plugin to revert weapon stats? there are clientside mods that remove hats, warpaints and unusuals, even taunts can be muted because casual servers still allow sound replacements.
is it really worth to release a whole mod on steam just to have a limited item scheme with less hats and autistic details like unfucked illustrative artstyle shaders, hd water ripples, old v_models, etc? are its developers even trustable unlike the freaks from tf2classic who have implemented their own server blacklist?

That is a janky band aid solution held together by duct tape and it doesn't work too well. TF2 in it's current state just has way too many problems.

Yes. That was basically the whole appeal of TF2classic before the jank updates and it worked. It's nice having a curated experience that you can just click and play.

There's not much we can do about this other than cross our fingers and let our opinions be heard. Management of internet communities almost always comes with problems and groomcord drama, especially nowadays. Castaway is just a community server and it had no shortage of issues and tranny jannies as well.

Even with all quality of life mods the game's optimization just gets worse with each update, + you still have 30gb of shit that mods can't change. Also if you don't play community servers - the casual mode is fucking awful with modern awful maps. In goldrush on other hand you can play on some cool old custom community maps (like balloon race), or even just play old tf2 maps that doesn't get populated because of casual (all plr maps except hightower, hydro).

Well i dont know, but this kind of source mod would be developed only by most dedicated purist tf2 autists who got tired from modern tf2 bullshit, so i hope it will be normal.

Even with all quality of life mods the game's optimization just gets worse with each update, + you still have 30gb of shit that mods can't change.

it's not like cosmetics can affect in-game fps or ram usage or loading times somehow, they have to follow the guidelines for max texture resolution and polygon count. but there's no such requirements for workshop maps so they always happen to be poorly optimized, which is the unfixable thing.
maybe performance could have gotten worse with x64 engine port which was the only recent tf2 update that would have significantly changed the game's code.
