Old, but this made me laugh.

I can't help but feel a little bad for Doug. If he left his job in a professional matter, or if he kept his job and did this thing as a side thing, perhaps his future wouldn't seem so... uncertain.

I mean, the guy seemed passionate with his work for a while and he clearly had ambition, but it's as Mister Metokur said, he just isn't very good at what he does.

He worked as a graphic designer for a while during the early years of CA. He quit that after a while.

And that's the thing, even if you look at his non-NC videos (in particular, his animation attempts), you can see the man has little talent in general. Makes me wonder how he even got that job in the first place.

We could debate the merits of Doug Walker's innate talents all day, but I think the bigger issue is he got outpaced by people who built upon and improved his model.

Looking at Doug's drawings, I can only notice that he haven't evolved a bit over the course of 15 years at least. You can see his drawings in that old autistic Tim Burton shrine he had and they were drawn in the same exact style as his current drawings and animation things.

I guess this translates into other things regarding his work, and while I know that he's not doing editing and postproduction stuff of his videos, this... also haven't changed much. They can't make the green screen work for shit, they couldn't blend it right since the beginning (understandable, since they were amateurs) but 10 years later they haven't figured out that you can change camera angle to fit the backdrop a bit better.

Even AVGN's videos have better quality. Granted he makes a video once a month (or less) not a week, but honestly, if you just care enough/know your stuff, you could get it done in a week.

I really do think part of why Doug's work suffers, and to an extant most other reviewers who try to do weekly videos, is that the shorter production time means less time to refine the videos, meaning cheaper scripts and special effects.

Now granted Doug has given himself two weeks these days, but that time seems to go more into the special effects rather than scripting. And even then there are other guys out there who have better looking effects than Doug despite Doug having a whole studio to work with, like AVGN and JonTron. But then those guys take longer to make videos. Plus since those guys take longer to do the special effects it means more time to work on their scripts and allows them to fine-tune the writing to make it funnier.

In short, Doug's videos suffer precisely because of his shorter production schedule. Sure it means he can pump videos out faster than most other guys these days, but you know what they say about quantity over quality.

And that's the thing, if Doug looked at his peers and realized that they take longer to make a better quality product. Then he himself would be able to do the same (this can also be applies to Lewis or many of the other members of CA).

The problem is that between Doug having stagnated this badly and the rabidly autistic fandom he acquired over time, it's likely never going to happen, even if he could.

I don't feel that bad for him after the Pop Quiz Hotshot debacle. Scamming money from people who are probably autistic tards is a pretty poor show.

I've been thinking about this for a while, but do you think Strider should get his own thread, or is his shit alright here?
