Im sure they look similar, but Persia's history is one of constant, repeated invasion and conquest by Arab, Turkic and Mongol foreigners:

First the Muslim conquests


Then Seljuk Turks sometime later (These are the people who ultimately give us the Ottoman Turks)

Then the Mongols showed up

Those Mongols would become the Timurids who themselves will eventually collapse in Iran and go East to create the Mughal Empire and be replaced in Persia by the Qara Qoyunlu

The thing all of these people's have in common is that they would be (perhaps with the exception of the Arabs) absorbed into Persian culture, which really is the region's only saving grace, but there's no way your Iranian buddies don't have some Turk in them.
