I still remember my dad telling me to stop taking the side off the computer case because I'd "strip the screws" lol

Luckily he trusted me enough to let me upgrade from Win 98SE to XP. Ah, memories...

Reminds me of a (somewhat recent) Windows 98 install I did for a buddy. Not enough IRQs to run a video card and a sound card, so I installed 98, then ran the 98 installer again (from inside 98 - with special flags that disabled ACPI (because it used SO FUCKING MANY IRQs)) so not only did his sound card and video card work properly, he got the nostalgic "It's now safe to turn off your computer" screen as well.

I replaced the "It is now safe to turn off your computer" screen with one that said "It is never safe to turn your back on a computer" when my friend found out the exact requirements for a BMP to replace the default ones with.

For decades Congress (and the Courts) have been offloading power and responsibilities over to the Executive branch and various Deep State agencies both to secure power and because they are lazy. They never anticipated that a maverick like Trump would swoop in, eject their cronies, and then either destroy or use the levers of power for different ends. Basic hubris and all that, you know?

Ideally this might force a reckoning that will encourage power to be returned to where the Founders intended, scattered across the three branches so they all end up fighting among themselves, leaving all us regular people unmolested.

Good news, peak capacity for retardation to do anything seems to have been reached already, so going stupider can't break much else.

Those were rough days.

I was hot shit in the 80s because I had a C64 BBS that had both a dedicated phone line so that meant the BBS was actually 24 hours (a rarity since most BBSes went offline around the time everyone got home from work and needed the phone), a 1200 baud modem, and I had TWO hard drives! A 1541 and later added a 1571 just so people could log in one person at a time and input their move in the online D&D adventure game that took place on my BBS lol. It took weeks just to get out of a room. Talk about needing a long attention span and patience.

I will say this as a Gen X'er that we earned our stripes. Back when you had to actually know about computers if you wanted to do anything with them. Like I said, rough days.
While it's nice to puff out my chest and say I was there, I will also say that Plug 'n Play was a godsend. As well as USB. This is coming from someone who completely fried the printer port on my PC because I plugged in a printer and forgot to turn it off first.

Are there still going to be people who know how to program computers, or are we just offloading that to the jeets entirely? Hiding how computers "work" from people sucks and users are worse off for it because there is no recourse, no troubleshooting that can be done when "magic button not working right" is all they can tell you.

I guess this is why trannies and furries are the only ones still doing programming these days, the are the only ones autistic enough to care how computers work under the hood. Infinite government-funded code bootcamps aren't an answer though. Not until we flush enough Indians that there are entry level openings for bootcamp graduates.

It was probably part of the deal the Dem's were given if they returned of their own will.

Politics is the art of the possible, you gota give some to get some after all and in the end the redistricting went ahead. The Dem's lost, they lost publicly so why push more?

Always remember the political class has far more in common with each other then they do us. So never be surprised when they cover for each other after the dust settles. It's like the old medieval times when nobles would only capture each other on the battlefield and not kill.

Yeah. TBH, this is very, "Kill 'em with kindness." They didn't just lose over it, they did so much work making the Republicans look good it almost isn't funny.

So might as well let them back in because they've already outed the clown-show for what it is and are all lame ducks now one way or another whether they actually get voted out/districted out or have to sit there living how much of a fuckup they are.
