Well, he hasn't painted over the orange tips for the ones he brings with him to cons. Even the most Jace-tier military LARPer knows you can't wave airsoft guns around conventions unless the tip is on it. My guess is he decided he'd rather compromise the authenticity of his battlefield replica and at least have it with him instead of leaving it at home or getting it confiscated.
