Its simple, tin foil isn't produced anymore and hasn't been widely available since the 1950's. Aluminum foil replaced tin foil post WW2 in part thanks to the massive increase in aluminum production driven by WW2. There are other reasons, as well, like the fact that aluminum is more durable and doesn't impart a metallic taste to the food thats wrapped in it (thanks to that oxide layer that forms on it.)
Tin foil was pretty bitchin' back in the day. This is why some of us have heard stories about great grandma washing and reusing her tin foil. It was pricey and much thicker so reusing it was worth the hassle.
But "they" also figured out that aluminum just doesn't block their mind-reading technology as well as good ol' fashion tin does. Thats why you can only order tin foil from scientific supply companies now, and even then it's usually in small squares and not a nice long roll you can wrap around your thinker. Has to do with the thickness and the atomic nature of aluminum. "They" want you to think it still works as good as your granddaddy's protection so they keep the term "tin foil" in the common vernacular as a way to trick you.
If you really want your thoughts secure you'll need to restore to a denser metal foil. Lead is best but tin is still a good compromise. Best way to form a protective layer shaped around your noggin' is to create a head-like mold and pure molten metal into it to fashion a sort of helmet. Don't just use your own head as a mold for the molten metal, as me how I know...
Lead flashing for roofing is a good alternative material thats still available, if not a bit pricey. Get ahold of some before its replaced by "alternatives." And always make sure to check your helmet for thought-leaks during construction.
