Oh yeah. They could always try running a puppet again. Maybe it's me though but I'd expect there to be... yanno... polish on it this time? 2024, I can 100% buy they panicked after the first debate. Trump scored an absolute headshot on Biden's chances in one fell swoop with that, "... and I'm not sure he knows what he said either," line or however it went. They had to find someone else if they didn't want to concede with grace, which they obviously didn't.

I'd expect them to pick someone who wasn't really in the national spotlight is where I was going at it, given how much of a flaming trainwreck all of their "stars" currently are. Even fucking AOC has available skeletons to drag out. That's why I wanted to focus on the dark horse angle.

Not sure I'm the most politically educated on it but would think it's a couple of reasons.

The first is historically the VP has been considered a poor position for the presidential run, you have all the baggage of the administration, minimal plausible deniability, minimal real power, and no incumbent advantage. IIRC people fed up with Theodore Roosevelt put him on a ticket as VP in order to sandbag his future political aspirations only to then have President McKinley get assassinated by an anarchist resulting in him becoming president.

Second is that Hillary was blindsided by Obama's popularity and while it's speculated there was an agreement between them in exchange for him winning the 2008 nomination, it's likely there was still animosity between the two because it was "her turn."

Third, whether it's Hillary or Kamala or Obama, the DNC recognizes the need to still have a white man visible somewhere on the ballot. Obama had Biden, Hillary had Kaine, and Kamala had Walz. They likely took that into consideration when deciding who to put as VP for Obama.
