I've finally managed to play a few games of Conquest (I have installed Windows 10 LTSC on a spare drive so I could enable Secure Boot for it). In terms of visuals, gameplay and movement, it's night and day compared to BF2042. I'm really impressed by how good the game runs (I have a 5800X3D and a RX 6600 XT and the game doesn't require FSR or DLSS to get a good framerate, crazy in 2025). Also great job on the War Tapes audio mix.
One thing though (outside of the lack of server browser and community servers), I hope they change the audio and visual feedback when you revive a team mate with the defibrillator, sometimes it gives you the impression that it didn't work, especially when under enemy fire.

Battlefield is aiming to become an annual release. EA wants to be greedy like Activision. Get ready for pink wigs, cartoon skins and water pistols :story:

That's another huge red flag, Expect support for older battlefield games to end faster. Bad company 2 got delisted from steam late 2023 when the official EA servers got taken down. BF3, BF4, BF1, Battlefront 2, and Titanfall 2 aren't too far behind as they try to push people to buy more modern titles.

My thoughts playing this second weekend while only on Rush and Breakthrough.

There is something wonky with the netcode or the server tick rate is very low. I didn't experience it last weekend but this weekend I kept noticing I would get beamed instantly from certain weapons with high fire rate and I thought it was aim assist on console but when I noticed enough of it on PC players, I realized its most likely netcode or tick rate. What I think is going on is the tick rate is so low that high rate of fire weapons create the "super bullet" effect where you feel like you get instakilled by one shot but in reality its multiple but the server sends the data down in one of the 1/16 per second packets so the player receiving will feel like it happened instantly (I recommend looking this up for a better explanation). It makes sense why SMGs are so OP along with certain carbines, that rate of fire works well with the tick rate. I think EA won't do 60 Hz on smaller game modes or even Breakthrough. This could be a cost cutting measure for their Azure or their AWS hosting just like Activision does. Now if it isn't tick rate, it means their networking code sucks and they will have to revert or hotfix it for release but I'm really thinking its tick rate.

That is a deal breaker for me. The anti-cheat already had me leaning towards not buying it but this is all together is a bad move. I've had enough of low tick FPS games for one lifetime and at my age and declining reflexes, I'm simply not going to enjoy myself whenever they throttle it.

I'm doubting this will actually happen. Activision never pulled that with their older CoD titles and instead left them at near MSRP for years probably expecting to not sell many. I think EA will continue selling them because in reality, people do go for the newest thing, they just bitch and complain when it sucks but hey EA got their $70.

Titanfall 1 was delisted but that was because the hacking situation and constantly DDOS’ing of their Azure instances hosting probably costed more money to maintain than it was worth to continue selling. At least Titanfall 2 has enough of a cult following that pirated copies will just pop up on torrent sites and you have to use Flightcore to play online.

I'd argue each company is different:

"Take a look at the game in action below. As reported by Gamerficial, EA explained that shutting down these games will allow them to focus on more actively played titles. In fact, they argue that the following 12 games account for less than 1% of all of EA’s live service players."

If you're not buying the latest slop, you will eventually get phased out even if it's years or decades from now. That's EA's current attitude and it's the reason you can't play 1943, BC1, or 2 anymore.

It’s scummy to see a title pulled but you can at least host your own servers on some of the newer titles and there is at least piracy to get the clients out. You missed my point on that.

EA did the same by not selling The Sims 1 and 2 for a while, but only then comes out with re-releases of those games when they realized that they can still make money off of them. And those re-releases are worse than the original installers because of removed content (i.e. no IKEA Stuff Pack for TS2), and it also adds new bugs to those games.

You're correct but the average niggercattle likes their convenience so if a game is delisted, you're effectively fucked when it comes to gaining future players to keep the playerbase alive.
Yes, people can:

1. Look up past steam games that have been delisted and see if they have multiplayer cilents
2. Download a torrent that works with the multiplayer cilent
3. Talk to friends and others make them do the same to grow the playerbase

Most people are lazy as fuck and aren't like you or me. I'll look up doom and quake's pcgamingwiki pages to see which source ports do what if I want to play a specific mod, most people aren't going to do that and just play the remasters made by Bethesda and/or Nightdive.

Maybe we'll get shitty re-releases and Bad company 1 and 1943 will get PC releases finally. No more waiting for the Xenia emulator to not be shit.

I liked my experience with the beta but the TTK takes some getting used to for close to medium range combat. Empire State wasn’t too bad, although I expected more streets instead of the samey interiors. They definitely need to nerf shotguns and change the flow of maps for Breakthrough. It’s too easy to be trapped in spawn.

Every 2 years maybe but not every year like CoD. There's probably a way to do it, you make one normal Battlefield game then you get another studio to do a different style of BF, a bit like what Microsoft did with the Forza IP.

Huh, if only EA had a military shooter to compete with Call of Duty... One that has small maps and infantry combat with a campaign grounded in reality. They could even name it after the highest and most prestigious award of the military. That sure would be neat, huh?

My friends and I ended up picking this up for the beta access to Battlefield 3 and ended up sticking around and playing it afterwards. The gunplay and maps in this game were outstanding. The campaign was a pretty standard GWOT spec ops plot, but it was still enjoyable and a genuine challenge on Tier 1 difficulty. I didn't play Warfighter so I can't really speak on it. Medal of Honor was CoD's biggest competitor until CoD4 came out and turned the series into a cultural cornerstone.

The battle pass is free, I guess I'll find a key for the game dirt cheap and just slog through the pass for those two outfits.
So play an inferior Battlefield to unlock gear for another Battlefield? (This isn't against you specifically, I'm thinking out loud.) I didn't even get to 100% all beta unlocks from last weekend. Now my OCD will kill me.
