I'm like 90% sure gold is used because it's resistant against corrosion, which is why you see it plated in common corrosion points. copper is still more conductive last i checked.
He responds to himself to tout his background in engineering if im reading this right. he wasn't bullied enough in homeschool, and 50% chance he's Canadian.
