He's literally caught in a Misery-esque scenario except Anisa hasn't fucked up his legs (yet). If that clip with the forced pie review was any other person but Ian Jomha, I would have felt uncomfortable and really upset on that person's behalf (there's this little thing called EMPATHY Ian) because it's just so humiliating to look at. He's clearly not enjoying that pie, the crust looks particularly difficult for him to swallow and the way he says "it's sour but it mellowed really fast" makes me think she's been physically or emotionally violent towards him the last time he tried to give her an honest review.

I don't understand how Ian can look at how Anisa treats him and decide that it's fine. Even if his parents had a fucked up relationship, which is probably true since his dad was in prison, he still hung out with people with normal spouses. Say what you want about Ethan and Hila but they love each other. He hung out with them, along with Max and Joji, for years. So he could see what a normal relationship could be.

I think he was always this stupid, and he was never "covering up" anything per se. He's just never had any real thoughts or opinions of his own, so he adopts whichever worldview the people around him have. He said that saying slurs was fine because that was popular on YouTube at the time, and people like Filthy Frank and H3 seemed to believe that. The reason his arguments were less retarded is that "his" beliefs were self-evident and easy to defend.
