I don't get why these people think their specific brand of leftism hasn't been tried before. We don't need to get into discussions of Mao or Stalin or w/e to see how some of these sorts of things turned out with modern day ideologies. We have seen them in action relatively recently.
The CHOP/CHAZ was the perfect example of liberal-leftism on display. It was created by their people for their people. It even had pizza lifelines and a state sponsored greenlight. It failed miserably and collapsed into exactly what their critics said would happen all along. People starved, crimes began occurring, a dictator rose and a small guard with guns began policing and telling people what to do. Not to mention they couldn't even plant crops properly, but I'll chalk that up to the people and not the ideology. It's what happens when anyone other than stoned out hippies tries to put their beliefs into practice.
Ian and Anisa feel like they exist in some bizarre time capsule, like it's 2011, long before their careers took off. Virtue signaling leftism is seen as performative and gay now, and doesn't earn you brownie points from the broader public and probably the leftists themselves too.
