He's probably full of shit or he tried to get into a Soapland or some kind of "sex club". Gaijin are typically turned away from those places unless they come in with a true and honest Nihonjin that will vouch for them.

Lived there for 10 years I have NEVER been denied entry into a store, restaurant or bar even in those early days when I barely spoke the language.

You don't see this kind of behavior from any other group out there.

As for the Japanese they're great when they travel and a good piece of advice for anybody who is on vacation and looking to get a picture taken. If there's a Japanese tourist there ask them. They will gladly take it and then give your camera back to you instead of running away with it.

Yes and as stated they tend to be places that either you don't need to go or they'll let you in if you go in with a true and honest Nihonjin that will vouch for you.

But here's the thing. Putting up a sign that says, "we don't serve gaijin" is illegal. You go to the cops, bring them to the site and say that's illegal and they have to let you in. Then when you and the cops leave they quietly put the sign back. But unless they're the only game in town... why go there? There's other bars that are more than happy to take your yen. I've said, several times, that I have never been denied entry or service in a Japanese business.

The places you'll see where gaijin aren't allowed tend to be places where they don't know how to act. Like some onsen or sento in Hokkaido that started some of these things. Why? A bunch of Russian sailors showed up, were really loud and rowdy and disturbed everybody. So they just said, "no more foreigners". Or some soapland / sex club where there are rules to abide like, "don't touch the girls" and "penetration is illegal". But some gaijin try to push those rules so no gaijin allowed.

Oh I get it! This is her excuse for not going to Japan. It's got nothing to do with her having no qualifications to do so or her total lack of skills. No it's because they're all meanies and hate foreigners.

Japan has ALWAYS been conservative and the governor of Tokyo was the kind of guy that used to blame foreigners for EVERYTHING going wrong. This is literally nothing new but she needs to give a reason why she can't go now.

Yeah but that was more out of convenience than anything else. The Emperor's whole thing was, "you guys get Europe and the Atlantic. I get the Pacific". And yes the Japanese were trying to call it the "Greater East Asia Co-Prosperity Sphere". Kick out all the colonial powers and give the lands back to the people... except Japan would be in charge of it all .
