Not to mention what happened to our two "heroines" of the saga. Monica is still working but from what I seen, not getting a lot roles and she's stuck with Boy Toye. Oh yeah and she got recasted as Stocking from Panty and Stocking with Garterbelt. Jamie? Not so much. Didn't she used to work at Gearbox? And would you look at that. She got recasted as Panty!

Bitch can't afford medicine for her cat but thinks she could have scraped together $35K for a visa AND do translation services for anime at the same time?

And now she's threatening to move to New Zealand? A place with an unemployment rate of 5.2% which is the highest it's been since 2020? Brilliant. Move somewhere with higher unemployment than the US.

I'm pretty sure it has more to do with protectionism and a desire to weed out rinky dink operators with nothing to offer to the country. If $200,000 is an insurmountable hurdle to starting a business you clearly weren't a serious going concern anyway.

When you get right down to it, $35,000 is meager enough a reasonably wealthy tourist type could swing it just to have a fake "business" not even intended to turn a profit and live there as a trust fund weeb.

I don't know. They literally have signs in some businesses telling Chinese people to fuck off. I know some won't even serve people who don't speak Japanese. I'm just pointing out that she didn't' seem to care about any of that before until it actually affected her then it's OMG XENOPHOBIA!

Yeah the Japanese hate the Chinese especially now when they come over in hordes, have tour busses that take them to the all the shopping areas and then talk so fucking loudly once there.

As for not serving you if you don't speak Japanese? Never seen that. Sure there's places that don't serve foreigners but they tend not to be the only game in town. This bar doesn't want your money? Go to another one. Who cares? The xenophobia seems to be more towards people who are loud and obnoxious about it.

But in the end she never had a chance to go there and she's just using this as an excuse. Mrs. Sebben and I go back every few years and I've never experienced outright xenophobia even in the most inaka areas out there except once on the last train with a drunken salaryman.

It was after a monthly staff meeting, I head home and manage to squeeze onto the last train. This was when we still lived in a guest house and hadn't moved to our apartment. I get on the train and find a spot and as the train starts to move and after two stops some faggot starts to press back against me so I naturally move. He follows. Usually not a big deal but this was a fat guy so he had a lot of bulk. I shift again and he follows me so he's playing "harass the gaijin". I think two can play at that game. I plant my feet and drive my elbow into his kidney. He tries to move. I follow. He of course doesn't say anything because that would affect the all important "wa" or harmony. This goes on for the few stops until I leave.

As I do he's staring daggers at me and I could see he was drunk. So I call out, in accented Japanese, "c'mere and make something out of it!" he just stands there and the train leaves.

Long story short, most Japanese are too scared to actually do anything about it. They'll talk about you behind your back. They'll complain to anybody who listens. But they won't dare ever say it to your face.
