It's one thing for an adult to get pocketmons cards the usual way. It's quite another for adults to waste food -- a lot of food -- to get as many cards as possible to resell them at jacked up prices. So tl;dw of vid: McD's in Japan had this promotion meant for kids with pocketmons cards in Happy Meals, but they had to end it within a single day.

What's the difference between those cards and the ones McD's were doing months ago here in the US?

I don't recall there being a scalper issue at the time.

The ones released in non-Japanese McDonald's restaurants get reprints of previously-released modern cards while Japan has unique promo cards.

Artists don't usually stick to one design, they draw multiple variations of a character until it gets approved by a majority vote. That's not even including things like "would it's typing change as well?" or "what kind of stats should it have?" or even "will it get a completely new ability or use something that's already been used by past pokemon?"

I know this is Pokemon we're talking about, considering a lot of their later designs have been questionable at best, but this is also the same company that doesn't have the same work ethic as it used to decades ago. Megas may be super popular, but there's no way they are giving people what they want.
 
Worlds hasn’t even started yet and people are already trying to scalp some of the products on eBay. For example:

Both of these items (along with Black Bolt/White Flare PC-exclusive ETBs) were only available via a purchase raffle you could opt-into when making a Pokémon Center reservation. The one on the left is a jukebox with a radio and a CD player whilst the skateboard deck is one of those carved Bear Walker skate decks.

And they’re current pre-selling on eBay for over $1,000 USD (with the jukebox only seeing lots at just under $2,000). The jukebox doesn’t have a known price but the Bear Walker is probably around $249.99-$399.99 MSRP.

And this is a Shiny Gyarados Deluxe figure from Jazwares that’s exclusive to Worlds. Naturally, it’s currently pre-selling for around $400 with a presumed MSRP of $59.99 before tax.

And yes, my Worlds trip is currently going along as planned.
 
I just got word that the jukebox has $130 USD price tag at the event, that means people are trying to resell it for around 15 times its MSRP.

Greedy motherfuckers.

.....shit, I get shiny Gyarados stuff for my husband, so I'm kinda mad it's exclusive.
 
One of those 00's promotional manga featured in guidebooks of RS was translated into spanish, here some pages. It really looks like the game artwork in comic form, really nostalgic. Kinda makes me wish there was more manga that aren't just oneshots and adapted the full story.

The Shiny Gyarados figure will probably be the cheapest of the three come Monday, it’s already dropping from ~$400 to around $175 on the resale market.

Seems like this is a regular occurrence for him, which makes sense, so this might not be anything huge. Felt like it was worth mentioning, though, especially as we wait for Worlds on the 15th. Kind of interesting that he'd wipe his account so close to an event that's going to have a live demo for the game available.

Nothing definitive, of course, but he was the first to claim that the amount of megas for Z-A was equal to the number of letters in the alphabet ("or maybe more") and half-agreed with a lot of posts circulating the currently infamous list around. He claimed that some stuff had already leaked and was in circulation, but of course didn't say anything too solid.

If anyone's got screenshots or archives of his tweets from February-May 2025, I'd appreciate them being posted here for posterity's sake. I'm kicking myself pretty hard for not grabbing any for myself.

The story about pyoro is a peculiar one because for some reason he agreed to do a interview with Jason Schreier, who would then sell him out to Nintendo.

The only thing he really did was basically foreshadow Pokemon champions and allude to the fact that all allege 27 Mega Pokemon are correct, but the vast majority of everything is coming from Ballguy
 
So apparently the Pokémon Center said “fuck it” in regards to the Shiny Gyarados figure and allowed those with reserved time slots to buy it without a voucher (they also did this with the PC-exclusive White Flare ETBs).

As a result, the figure’s now going for around $200-$300 on eBay.

  • Not even Pokémon is safe from Jeets winning too, and I don't think an Indian team or player won a major E-Sports event until now.
  • Peru found another MOBA to be OP at, after they showed potential in DOTA 2 but didn't get to the top there.
  • Mainland China started having Pokémon events only recently, so Fuguan Liao's win after only 2 seasons and becoming China's first World Championship maybe will be one of more to come.
  • Kevin Han becomes the first Champion to win in 2 age divisions. (2024 in Juniors last year, and 2025 in Seniors this year)
  • I do wonder why Sian Lee chose to use Helping Hand instead of Fake Out with Incineroar.
  • The US sweeps the VGC divisions this year.
  • Will Canada use Riley McKay's win as yet another "ELBOWS UP" moment?

my husband wouldn't do that......because i'm way too anal about the details to even allow myself to give him a gift like that!

but pro tip: if your SO has a favorite pokemon, it makes for easy gift-giving. You can just keep merch releases like this in your back pocket, for any holidays or birthdays.
