I grew up between city and countryside, but I can say that even a fucking cow can make noises that will make you want to tear your ears off.

I used to get spooked by ducks cackling at each other in the morning. They have little evil villain laughs, and it's silly to be scared of... But something just hits differently when it's dark, and you're a 10yo in a rural town, and you've gotta walk down your driveway in the pitch black.

Listening to the Last Podcast on JonBenet again because it's such a weird case. I know a lot of you think the Ramsey's did it but Patsy would have to be greatest actress on Earth to fake that 911 call. That is exactly how my mom sounded when she got home from work after an amber alert was called in for my younger brother (he was fine, he had walked to his friends house and went to a theme park with them without telling anyone. It was a rough 8 hours though. Got grilled by police for a good while asking all sorts of questions about if we had any secret hiding spots, adults that might have befriended us, if our parents abused us, etc.) The franticness in her voice takes me right back to that.

Yeah but unlike your family, the Ramseys didn't get grilled by the police bc they lawyered up the very moment jb's body were found and refused to cooperate with the police, so they were only interviewed three times speed out months after the crime had been committed and those interviews had to follow rules the Ramseys put up or else they would walk out.
Imagine any poorer family getting to dictate to the police what they could and could not do.

I made up a horror story for my kids about ducks when they were younger and we were walking past a flock of them one evening. I thought it was reasonable and age appropriate, it was supposed to be more absurd than scary. Years later they told me the story scared the living hell out of them and they still find it creepy

I once took some LSD in the park and became convinced that the ducks were going to get me. I've never been more terrified in my life. It was completely irrational and ridiculous, but I knew with every fiber of my being that they were going to come for me if I dropped my guard.

It's not that they just lawyered up, it's how they refused to cooperate with the police when they as a family would have been the best source of information as to why this murder happened, no matter what theory one ascribe to. It sometimes took months or even years before the police were informed of stuff they should have gotten in the first few days .
Lawyering up is reasonable, but it's definitely not reasonable to behave like the Ramseys did and how they were given information about the investigation that they had no right to, they went so far that another father whose daughter had been murdered was making a plea for them to cooperate with the cops for the sake of their dead daughter.
Because it sure seems like they weren't too keen on finding out who did it, there are a number of newspapers stories from that time that asks why the Ramseys were hiding behind their wealth and also blaming their own legal representation for not letting them talk to the police, when they were the ones who decided what they wanted to or not.
It's one of the things I find most disgusting about this case, Ramseys going on tv or to newspapers/tabloids to lament about how they for sure wanted to have a working relationship with the police, but when off air they put such ridiculous restrictions on any meeting that even the FBI told the police that "you don't give in to those demands", and the sentiment at the time in the locality was that if they were innocent why behave like this and putting even more suspicion on themselves instead of cooperate.

As everyone else I have no clue who really killed Jonbenét, but the Ramseys behaviour haven't ever stuck me as parents who really wanted to know, because they already knew.

The only reason I have even the slightest doubt they did it is everyone involved in that whole child beauty pageant thing is some variety of sick fuck so while they might not have done it themselves, maybe one of the deviants in the "community" did.

I don't follow this case as autistically obsessively as a lot of people do, but I do recall hearing something about how the Ramsey house was like an open highway for both pageant folks and John's business associates, so there were a great many people who could've had their eye on her.
