I honestly don't think Kiwis are going to have any influence getting Mike Martin in jail, if that ever happens. It'll mostly come down to the archive.org backups. Nick Monroe sent them to the relevant police departments, and I'm sure all the various anons across the internet have too, so we'll have to wait and see on that development.

That's the thing, unless we're dealing with something absolutely abhorrent "hostage situations etc", police can't be sent in unless there's solid reason to believe a crime was committed in the first place. Sometimes it feels like our rules on the matter really work against us, but it's all about making sure we don't have police sent out over rumors and baseless ill-speak.

Edit: Unannounced raids are only permitted if it's believed that any evidence of crime can be eliminated or a crime actually can be committed in the time police take to announce themselves. That's a "No-Knock" Warrant.

Also, our County Sheriff and Police offices aren't exactly famous for seamless cooperation. A good example is the city below me having a smaller legal province "Chapmantown", within itself, which caused Chapmantown to become a hive of crime, as on top of insufficient police forces in the area, there was no rights given to the Chico police to intervene to handle misdoings.

I just don't want to see this couple getting away with anything by prepping the kids and rehearsing their stories too much etc before being interviewed. I've watched most of the videos and I can't put into words how sickening the whole thing is.

Also in order to intervene extremely quickly, I believe they have to prove that the children are in imminent danger, and all of their current actions suggest otherwise (even if it is by a PR firm).

I do not believe CPS would rehome the children even if an investigation goes in favor of the children's wellbeing. Not to dismiss the damage done, but child abuse cases can get significantly worse and the foster system is horribly flawed in the US. I do not think what we see in the YouTube videos is enough to convince CPS to roll the dice on a foster home.

Not to say CPS won't do anything. I believe they would assign the parents special classes or counseling. But the custody battle for Emma and Cody is likely the only avenue for those two to be removed from the home.

You have to be arrested by the police department of the county you committed the crime in, this is because the laws vary from place to place in the US. Given the fact that they're looking over the videos, it implies that they suspect a crime has happened and are determining how to formally charge him.

1-I guess slamming a kid into a bookshelf for no reason doesn't count as physical abuse.
2-Did you know: Emotional abuse is just as bad if not worse then physical abuse? The more you know.

fuck me was i hungover when i wrote that. i just mean i'm not sure the outrage is totally proportional. some parents are tough on their kids. that's probably how they were raised. i honestly just think these people are arrogant idiots not evil. they should treat their kids better but i'm not sure they should be dragged through the mud by internet hate mobs or have their kids taken. hopefully they will learn a lesson.
