Another user points out a long-standing dynamic of the "top" being beastly, and the "bottom" being white and civilized. If you don't believe me, just look at the "Captive Prince" covers.
It explains why Jayvik was the perfect storm. Jayce is the “beastly” muscle-ly racially ambiguous himbo top in “situation-ship” with the sexytumblrman pale depressed disabled twink anti-hero power bottom.
Most of them are addicted to pretty extreme pornography...it's just written/drawn, so it's the usual extreme porn brainrot. I mean it's seriously not that difficult to go into any fandom, filter for m/m, and then just scroll and see how much rapey shit you run into or anything else crazy.
They then turn around scream at the m/f shipping people, accusing them of internalized misogyny for doing the exact same thing they do the only difference is that one is a timid female and the other is a step-in for one.

That or they decry you for supporting the cisheteropatterwhacky for a completely banal, fluffy m/f romance where there is a stereotypical push/pull dynamic. They think they're the specialist for being into their made up version of fag shit.

If people just kept to what they liked and didn't try to stir shit or shove it everywhere it wouldn't really be too much of an issue. But no one knows how to play nice.

Glad to see this being referenced (and then forgotten entirely): the people who make a character five shades darker for "representation" but then they pick the fistpunchy guy to do it to. The clone of a 1/4 Japanese white dude is not going to be dark-skinned even if he does kill people for a living (ret.); generally murder does not change your skin color.

Sometimes it's the "his penis" problem: if you're going to write about two dudes fighting or fucking, you have to be careful in your description so someone can picture the action without relying on "the taller man winced" too much. If you're going to draw two dudes fuckin' and you're not confident, easy to make one of them way darker so people can tell whose foot that is.

Hoo boy! I can't tell if OP was made by staff or the user as a splinter thread, but I really wish they did a better job of organizing it and giving relevant information and terms so other farmers could have an easier time with things.

I myself am not a fan of any of this tripe, however, I have friends who are and unfortunately and I am a Star Trek OS fan (more on that later), once you are aware of it, you see it everywhere. I'm gonna go into Omegaverse a bit here and talk about the history, terms, and controversies. Bear with me. I will spoiler some shit as much of it is vile, but some is SFW enough that I won't. Forgive me if this post gets long.

History of the Omegaverse-A very bizarre history, and how Star Trek inadvertently produced one of the worst fanfic universes known to man (currently)

Omegaverse is a genre of fanfiction, sometimes called A/B/O or Abo for short, and now even with published novels that revolve around the concept of a sexual hierarchy that all people are subject to. There are essentially 3 castes of sexual flavor that usually cannot be changed. These sexualities are then applied to characters in fanfics or the author's own creations for story purposes. While there are stories where Omegaverse is a secondary factor, the vast majority have it as a focal point. The Omegaverse primarily focuses on male with male relationships, but there are heterosexual relationships ones (which I will get to later). I will define terms in the spoiler below.

Omegaverse essentially follows a now long debunked theory of wolf pack behavior. If you have heard the term "alpha male" yes, it is like that, but much more degenerate and gross. The man who actually theorized and presented the alpha pack member theory about wolves has completely turned around to say he was wrong about wolf packs and has doggedly (pun unintended) worked at reversing this harmful theory and educating people how it isn't true and especially not with wolves. However, the damage is done and it has worked itself into mainstream culture, no matter what the poor scientist says. With that out of the way, I will get into the details of how Omegaverse operates and the three castes of sexuality in this universe.

How did this stupid shit get started? Glad you asked. Much to many a fan's chagrin: Star Trek, the original series, particularly due to Captain Kirk, Spock, and even Dr. McCoy. Much of slash fiction actually originated in the 60s and 70s due to Star Trek, I even have a friend who collects gay magazines from the 70s that published Kirk/Spock stories, also known as "Spirk" for the uninitiated (it's her OTP, one true pairing, but she gave me a lot of info due to this). Massive amounts of fan fiction originated from this pairing, sometimes even including McCoy. Back in the dark ages before the internet, the only way to access these fics was to subscribe to gay or indie magazines or even for authors to print these themselves and mail them to fans. How one found fans back then to mail them Star Trek smut is beyond me but yeah, it happened. Tropes of the Omegaverse have been found here early on, but were not Omegaverse and came much later. The biggest thing that started this was the episode "Amok Time," the episode where Spock goes into "pon farr" which is a Vulcan mating cycle where they must mate or die. You can see how this heavily influenced Omegaverse. Often the trio of Kirk, Spock, and even McCoy fit rather well with the terms below: Kirk being the Alpha, McCoy being the Beta (or Omega sometimes), and Spock typically being the Omega. There are variations on this but there ya go.

The Omegaverse became a thing in the 2010s, much of it originating possibly with the Supernatural fandom, to the point of shipping the brothers of the show, and then later the character Castiel. This quickly spread to things like Sherlock, Hannibal, Doctor Who, Teen Wolf (go figure), and even Glee of all things. Ever since, it has taken off and become a staple of fanfics and the writers. If you think these fan fictions are limited only the the degeneracy of the Omegaverse, boy are you wrong. There is horrendous shit within some of these and I do NOT advise seeking them out, be it even for research purposes. Anyways, onto the terms that have defined a genre.

Omegaverse Terms-Abandon all hope ye who enter here

Alpha= Alphas are the highest ranking in the pseudo caste system in this universe. These are the big boys who are sexually aggressive and always "top" both Betas and Omegas (more on them later). Alphas can never bottom or be bottomed, they are always the aggressive partner and the one who controls the situation. Usually come with swaggering bravado, brash personalities, a sort of machismo even, and are often huge in stature (unless the author has a humiliation fetish so he will be smaller but that's another issue entirely). Here is where things get really gross, so be warned. Given Omegaverse originated from a wolf social dynamic theory, a very common attribute of these stories is the "alpha" will have a knot. Yes, essentially they have dog dick, even if they are human. Gross, absolutely. Some behaviors of alphas include "rutting", a period where the male is particularly sexually aggressive, dominant, and aroused and often NEEDS to fuck someone (usually and Omega). They also have a "musky scent" according to most fics, remember, based on wolves. Gross. Finally, one of the biggest attributes of alphas is "marking." Essentially they will bite a wanted mate and "mark" them signifying they are now essentially married or partnered. Again, this is heavily based on wolf pack theory, so all of this is horseshit.

Betas= Betas are essentially the "switches" of the Omegaverse. A switch in mostly BDSM contexts, is someone who can dominate and be submissive, sometimes in the same session. Betas will often fuck the Omegas, but get fucked by the Alphas. Betas can never fuck Alphas, they are always the fuckees. They have similar characteristics to Alphas but usually much less so. They also tend to have dog knots. Christ forgive me for writing all this.

Omegas= The submissives of the sexual castes. Essentially, THE RAPED of this universe. They tend to be kind, gentle, and submissive, perfect for manipulating and raping. Omegas are submissive and have multiple things that signal they are "in heat" which signals to an Alpha that they should fuck them, even if it's rape. Omegas produces something called "slick" in heat, which is essentially lubrication that smells and tastes sweet (fuck that makes me gag). Omegas in heat tend to be very sexually aroused, irritable, and often need to remain near their Alpha lest they go out and be RAPED by another one. Notably, Omegas do not have knots usually. They also apparently have heat cycles as well. If they are male (again, there are actually female members of all the castes but the stories heavily lean male or boylove) they both poop, get fucked in the ass, and give birth through it unless they get a C-section. Fucking kill me.

There are a few "alternative" castes like Gammas, but they rarely occur. So, with those above, you can see how these terms and tropes play into the larger Omegaverse. The alpha and the omega is the most common pairing, but variations do occur, sometimes in throuples. Much of this is usually applied to existing properties and wars about who is who abound. There is tons of strange fanfics out there (One Direction going through The Purge comes to mind, weirdly there are hundreds of them last I checked, but I digress), but Omegaverse has become the most prolific. To the point it has a FUCKING WIKIPEDIA ARTICLE, which I have linked below.

Criticisms and Controversies: Omegaverse is srs bizness, guyz

The Omegaverse has been cited even in academic articles at this point, which God help us all if this where acadaemia is going. Many have criticized it for fetishizing gay relationships, being patriarchal, perpetuating the idea of rape culture, and even some racial stereotypes. Side not, some people refuse to call it "abo" due to being the same word for a slur against Australian natives. Many have also criticized it for being mostly white relationships, but you just know they would bitch if it were a biracial relationship and say how heckin' racist it is even if the darkie was in either alpha, beta, or omega position. Whatever.

Some have cited it as a way to work through "queer oppression" and a welcome edition to queer literature. (You gotta be scraping the bottom of the barrel if that is the case). The transgenders seem to enjoy it a lot as well, lending an idea to transition to many a pooner because alpha cock is just too tempting. I cannot imagine where you are in life that reading Omegaverse makes you want to lop your tits off but here we are.

Now, many readers and fan fic authors have landed in hot water for their works and enjoyment of them, however, the biggest controversy revolves around "het" Omegaverse, to the point it got to the FUCKING SUPREME COURT OF THE UNITED STATES, over this. Links will be provided below, and weirdly Lindsay Ellis did a great job of covering the whole debacle in a video, and with a follow up video, included below. Bonus points for Legal Eagle showing up in this, both Ellis and Eagle have their own threads here on the Farms even if you wish to check them out.

Essentially, a writer by the name Addison Cane, started writing heterosexual Omegaverse fanfics, mostly centered around the Batman villain Bane, and possibly a self-insert character. She then reskinned it and published multiple books. Then, someone else got in on the deal, a woman named Zoey Ellis. As detailed above in Lindsay's video, she bullied another author and threatened to sue and started the process, and the author backed down and I think even took down her work. She has also done this to other authors, with varying success. Well, Addison thought this was a sign she was right, and then when another did the same, she did the same thing. This did not go over well and the author said "fuck no." This was unacceptable to Addison (pen name mind you, her powerword is out there though), which lead to a crusade that she had the orignal idea that Omegaverse heterosexual sex was created by her. She even tried to trademark this idea, no I am not kidding. She then started sockpuppeting, calling her fans to crusade against the author, she review bombed the author, along with her fans doing this, and started issuing DMCA notices.

This escalated to the point that Zoey Ellis received death threats, and then took it to court. Addison again doubled down, and even claimed that the word "cocky" in certain fonts was hers. Come to think of it, Addison probably deserves her own thread due to her chimpouts and tendency to portray herself as a victim. She also claimed her publisher, During discovery for the trial, it turned out that her publisher, issued a ton of the DMCA notices and spent time corresponding with Addison about all their frivolous ways to get Ellis's works taken down, legitimately, there are multiple e-mails detailing this, complete with Addison bitching and whining and crying how her precious works are being diverted to Zoey. A lot more legal bullshit happens, but it did get to the Supreme Court at one point. The New York Times even wrote about it, but it has since been deleted from their site but I know archives exist of it. I feel so bad for any lawyer or justice who had to read that shit and become familiar with the Omegaverse... A lot more bullshit has happened, like Ellis's publisher going bankrupt because of the case and had to pretty much cancel their suit against Addison. Again, the video above goes into detail and I am probably fucking up some details. But yeah, this was probably the biggest controversy given Addison is a fucking Karen and somehow claiming heterosexual sex in the Omegaverse is uniquely hers.

So there you have it, a very brief Omegaverse overview and the batshit insanity in it and surrounding it. If you will excuse me, I am now going to drink heavily.

Splinter thread. Was it from Pooner Zoo? You're right; it's absolutely not in a "beginner friendly" state.

The trope name you're searching for is "sex pollen."

It was definitely from a Supernatural AU Dreamwidth kinkmeme. As I said in the fanfiction thread, Omegaverse is a rare instance of being able to track the birth of a fandom/fetish/trope/AU, like using a radio telescope to peer back and see the very birth of a star thousands of years ago.

Omegaverse happened on the Internet and it got popular quickly enough that its origins weren't lost to bitrot by the time people started looking.

Going to quote myself again, on how Omegaverse is the Wal-Mart of self-indulgent fanfic tropes:
Omegaverse is successful because it's a conglomeration of popular tropes. The Supernatural fans specifically wanted Alpha/Omega and dog penises because werewolf AUs had just had a moment. Heat comes in on the tail of that (haw), and weird how you don't see as much Sex Pollen now that Omegaverse is in town. Mpreg adding to the mix after Heat is obvious, and once the Omegaverse is rolling along, it'd be an odd decision to write an mpreg story that wasn't part of Omegaverse, unless you're going for the "surprise baby" trope.

Other AUs that Omegaverse took over are those now nearly-forgotten BDSM AUs, where characters got identified as a Dom at birth or puberty or something and the Subs couldn't stop themselves from obeying if they got yelled at. And then there was Sentinel/Guide, which was almost the pre-Omegaverse based on how many people wrote Sentinel/Guide AUs vs. how many people ever actually watched The Sentinel.
We've discussed it previously in this thread: because Omegaverse is a catch-all, authors tend to spend either the tags or the beginning of the story explaining how their Omegaverse works. This is acceptable even moreso than explaining your vampires' rules, because Omegaverse has no original author and no canon, and also because in a few pages the reader is presumably going to want to know what kinds of holes are self-lubricating.

So you've got an AU that requires you to pick X elements from the strongly-advised list, and then a handful from all these other strongly-associated elements, and the built-in expectation that you'll explain your version of it in the preface. At that point, if you're in the neighborhood already, it's just easier to write Omegaverse.

The trope name you're searching for is "sex pollen."
That tracks, though it seems Star Trek was possible the origin for this trope, or at least how it became so prolific.

I really do wish the OP was better for this thread, given some of the terms are necessary to explain to the uninitiated (I am so jealous of these people) and the absolute insanity surrounding the community and in the stories themselves.

In the meantime, I did dig up the archive of the New York Times article on this whole debacle, I'll post it below. Again, it is interesting that (this is mentioned in the Lindsay Ellis video I posted) essentially no other case has really revolved around fan fiction in this manner. Very bizarre, and it still cracks me up that Addison Cain thinks she came up with the novel idea of heterosexual sex in the Omegaverse. Grade A delusion right there that heterosexual relationships (the most common sexuality) is unique to her. Wild.

Edit: Forgot the post the article, am dumb of brain. Forgive me.

"This fanfic trope has roots in the Star Trek:TOS fandom" has to be the fannish version of "Simpsons did it."

It's been a long time since the '60s and the show was internationally aired; that's a hell of a lot of fan-hours when you add them all up. If someone made a red string murder wall, Trek would be a big nexus.

You're right that there are shades between "Sex Pollen," "Mating Cycles" and "Mate or Die." Even ST:TOS you've got "Amok Time" and you've got "This Side of Paradise."

At least This Side of Paradise had Jill Ireland. And All Our Yesterdays has a spot in there somewhere.

Could wait until December to bring it up (because Voltron anniversary), but while it's on my mind, the Voltron debacle is undeniable proof yaoi fangirls are insufferable because they literally get butthurt their OTP doesn't get together despite being ecstatic their fanfiction (in having one half of the pairing being gay af) was coming true. It's not enough that Shiro ended up with another man in the end so they could have their canon gayboi, it's the fact neither Sheith (Shiro/Keith) nor Klance (Keith/Lance) was real.

Although crying Shiro was just the "tokenized" gay character (when him being gay was only revealed/confirmed in season 7) was *chef's kiss*.

Klance was never even set up in a romantic way either, they were always full schizo. It was always going to be Lance and Allura (though tbh I liked them more platonic) and lance showed no attraction to men anyway nor did Keith.

That show could've had potential to be pretty okay. We rarely get western animation that isn't Family Guy tier ugliness and just exists as joke. But shippers ruin it. They really ruin everything. They're essentially creepy fetishists and people just allow them to make sexual comments and talk about weird shit on the comments of videos and on social media about various celebrities and shit. On said official pages for the actors/musicians/streamers whatever.

That people do not more regularly call out shippers for being sexually deranged weirdos really gets me.

If I had more time and hadn't actively stepped back from fandom for my own sanity I'd do some research in the kink escalation that's rampant in shipping, and especially yaoi, circles. Similar to regular porn, in the past decades we've seen the normalisation of extreme kinks that would have been considered super niche not long ago. It's just more proof how porn-brained too many Western fic writers are. Violent anal sex and face fucking have all but become staples, it's kind of expected that the top is a - more often than not highly OOC - "dom daddy" basically raping the bottom. The newest trend from what I've seen (and what just cemented my decision to never interact with fanfiction ever again) is pissing. Somehow the fujos have brainwashed themselves into thinking this is sexy. Does it have to do with the popularity of omegaverse? At the same time, we've seen in the pooner thread that a lot of them openly profess having a piss kink on their social media. I've read an interesting point on another site that might have to do with this though: you have these cliques of authors who move from popular fandom to popular fandom like locusts, bringing their hardcore kinks with them. Not only do they rope others in, but they also tend to one-up each other with their degeneracy. After all, once a certain hardcore act has been normalised, it quickly becomes boring and they look for something even more extreme to get clout.

Sure, yaoi (and fanfic in general) has always had degenerate slop, but imo things have truly escalated in the past decade. Nowadays, smut is just all the same mindless, OOC porn where you could change the names and it wouldn't change anything. It would be pathetic if young girls coming into fandom weren't made to believe that all those kinks are fine and dandy and totally part of healthy human sexuality.

That said, I've come to wish they'd just shut AO3 down. I don't even care anymore if that makes me a censorship loving prude.

I'd do some research in the kink escalation that's rampant in shipping, and especially yaoi, circles.
I blame the rise of the kink meme. Fanfiction writers wanted a "fun challenge" or something after exhausting all other previous challenge/drabble trends (remember the iPod shuffle challenge? lol), and here comes the "kink meme" and the prompts that came with them. I think originally they were benign, but definitely over time it escalated, and because they fried their brains on smut by the time they snuck their way into the industry, they made it more acceptable to publish professionally. This meant writers were now open to writing about their most depraved fantasies and you couldn't call them out for their debauchery or else you were "kink shaming".

That said, I've come to wish they'd just shut AO3 down. I don't even care anymore if that makes me a censorship loving prude.
I wish Australia or some other country would clutch their pearls over fanfiction again and threaten to ban the site from their domains unless they got rid of explicit material. Legit, "Agony in Pink" would get praise and copycats on AO3 these days.

Sam Aburime, a known proshipper and academic, made the same argument on women liking MLM over WLW three years ago, in 2022. Of note is that she runs fujoshi.info and her only academic work is posted in the Organization for Transformative Works. She has a webcomic here. She is not Japanese and it's currently unknown if she's even fluent in the language.

The tweet I'm discussing is found here. Archive.

Admitting the obvious: it's because they want to project onto the men because they don't want to be objectified:

"You can't tell who's a cis woman and who isn't" - I can just by their fanfic preferences alone. It's remarkably easy to clock.

Zombie Jerusalem, a known cow in the proshipper community who was literally too fat for the bench in a vet office, also appeared:

I wonder if she's still e-begging for a cat she can't afford medicine for. She spends more time bitching about TERFs and not making money.

As for Sam herself, this is her:

And she has a Fanlore page. Unlike the Archive itself, you cannot access her papers unless you request personal access. They are closed to the public, adding a little bit of irony to a creature that argues antis are trying to influence the public. Here are summaries of her papers from Fanlore:

And the "people of colour" tend to call out fujos and their white fetish...imagine that.

What's funny is that proshippers hinged off the fact that the antis kept getting busted for child molestation. Recently, with high profile cases like Kris Tyson, more proshippers are being outed as pedophiles for their love of lolicon/shotacon.

I'm going to be mean and say it but I sincerely doubt the usual suspects have been the object of sincere romantic and sexual attention. Perhaps crass jokes they were the butt of.

They're drawn to the abnormality of what they like to read about as well as the fact most of them are too autistic and weird to relate to what it's like have a guy you think is cute flirt with you.

Just like with a lot of troons their life is sucky and they're not shining examples of good breeding so they fantasize about the grass being greener on the other side. That's why they project onto these ships.

There is lots of media clearly for the female audience where objectification isn't a problem or lots of mainstream stuff that doesn't use tired old tropes. So really, I think it's a tired old argument that they use because it sounds less lame than them being such losers they'd rather relate to a made up gayboi than be reminded fat chicks aren't really seen as attractive or whatever else. It's just something they heard someone use once so they say it too because it sounds nice. Especially knowing what the content of the fics many of them are into are like I call bullshit that stuff is full of the one getting stuffed being seen as feminine (so much so many of them are written to regularly be confused for women LMAO), rape, harassment, obsessive/possessive lovers, violent sex, incest ships, large age gaps, underage/adult ships, etc. That shit is all far worse than bog standard ooga booga big naturals objectification and even some M/F tropes like getting easily jealous at a party. If you were sensitive to that stuff you'd just not seek out content with it regardless of gender configuration but that shit gets turned up to 11 in their fics.

I’m in a loony mood so I would like to give you all a hypothetical. Let’s say, a Fujo pooper commits a heinous act and has to be sent to jail or a psyche ward? How would you torture, kill, or rehabilitate them?

For me, I wouldn’t kill them because they already want to do that themselves. But I will “torture” them in a way that they hate. I will keep them in a psych ward where I play on a projector clockwork orange style the media of their favorite characters that they ship together make out with their canon heterosexual love interest.

In the cafeteria and all over the building I will play Harry Potter on the tv’s daily and have them read anti-trans books they will be quizzed on. They will also have to use the women’s restroom and sit peeing sitting down whether they want to or not.

(Btw I’m just joking of course I wouldn’t want to touch them with a 10-foot pole or cause them any actual harm)

On July 31st, fallout from that Ao3 top ship list was in full swing. It led to a woman getting dog piled for a true statement, fujos admitting they don't interact with black characters, and a guessing game of which white ships were their sacred fave. In the end, their politics begin and end with "don't fuck with my porn." Here are just a few responses from said fallout.

First, the usual argument: yaoi doesn't center men, that's silly. Their relationships are more equal!

That's not the issue. You can't argue All Art Is Political while insisting fanfic is exempt. Why are white skinned men the most desirable men? That's the question they aren't asking.
Screenshot_2025-08-02-20-50-35-548.webp
If you center men, you're male centric, yes.
Screenshot_2025-08-02-20-50-46-899.webp
Those stats tell me everything, actually: they are white women living out their sex lives through pale skinned men. Niggers, Southeast Asians and Indians need not apply. Admitting you use fanfiction for sexualization purposes because it's "safer than patriarchy" is very telling.

Thankfully, some called them out.

"If there were more F/F fics they'd blame misogyny"
And you'd be wondering where the men are. The fact female-dominated media has male ships and characters dominate is proof of male centrism.
Screenshot_2025-08-02-20-51-10-893.webp
There is a political element to it. You're male and cock centric. Why? "Oh well male characters are more complex." The usual bullshit.

As for race, well. We don't talk about that:

Explain why Thai media isn't as popular as Korean dramas. Or why Bollywood has virtually no fanworks for it. You know, but you won't say it. It's not white supremacy there. It's colorism.

Good argument on sinners. Fujos all focused on Remnick, the white vampire.

We ain't looking for media literacy here:

We can still criticize you because you are never seen actually interacting with queer content featuring non whites. It's not mainstream media - it's YOU.

I wonder what Goon God has to say about women:

Here's JM:

I'm sure he's such a good feminist. Won't call you a dirty cunt at all.

Makes sense.

And the tweet where it all began:

That's...still internalized misogyny.

On the topic of internalized misogyny, this got brought up:

And a very, VERY candid admission:

It isn't just about misogyny - they need a man or else they'll be jealous of another woman.

Now, you might be wondering when one of these fujos will say the quiet part out loud. JJ here did, and later ran to a Jayvik's thread to get updoots. Said JayVik is currently getting head for retweeting a thread accusing black women of a race war.

"Write your own fics!"
"Black people don't interest me and white people do, what's the problem?"
White fujos really need to learn when to shut up.

Again with the "write your own!" argument. It sounds awfully condescending compared to what JJ there just admitted to.

I wonder if these Vietnamese ladies read yaoi with black men in it. Something tells me they don't.
Screenshot_2025-08-18-01-53-19-177.webp
It's always, "I need to focus on white and pale males because they are attractive to me" and not, "I don't like blacks so I won't write about them." If said fics exist, you think Agent Orange here is reading them? I don't think so.
I wasn't aware gay men suffered compulsory heterosexuality, a term coined for lesbians. It's always gotta be about them.

You could still keep your positions because you were men. Provided you didn't get caught, you could be an "eternal bachelor".

How deep.

"You need to have empathy" - this was reblogged by a fujo snarking at that yaoi thread.

Remember that CaitVi event? One of the main complainers was a Troon:

The answer is yes.

Forgive me if this misses the mark, but that just rings of immaturity to me more than anything else. The aspects mentioned are achievable (at least to a point), yet the person there says she is none of those things as if not being strong, loved, beautiful, or able to do great things is somehow outside of her control.
She uses yaoi as a way to avoid confronting her own personal failings.
