Actually I'd been seeing something similar. Both an 18 year old MTF trannie and 19 year furry said, when I pressed them on their identity group, that they knew of their groups' respective degeneracies, and saw themselves as not like the rest. All the while they were degenerates themselves.
Definitely, never take them at their word, though for this they at minimum were not lying about how they saw themselves as different (and therefore less degenerate) than the rest.
This thread may insist otherwise, bu the furry fandom has its own specifi culture, complete with its lore and customs, even if a lot of these are perverted. Though they wan the mainstream to recognise and accep their unique culture, they also fear 'mainstreaming' the furry fandom because they feel that corporate interests and 'normies' woul 'dilute' and eventually get rid of that culture.
One that I can mention off the top of my head is Dineegla nd MuscleWolf. Death was the only thing that parted them.

Furry relationships are totally meaningless when it comes to being encompassed in a monogamous relationship with regards to most Furries. The majority of Furries only choose a "mate" so they can claim to be in a loving relationship with their significant other, but in reality it is only to avoid being labeled as a "slut". These Furries simply continue to fuck around with many others despite being in a relationship. Most Furries can't grasp the concept of sticking to loving just one other. Also to most Furries the terms "Open" and "Closed" relationships still mean the same thing, having a hubby or waifu and still being allowed to fuck every Tom, Dick or Harry (or the occasional Sue) in a Fursuit.
One thing I notice in the Furry Fandom is that members are almost always one of three relationship statues, none of which are healthy when you think about it:
he's blackpilling. i've noticed some moving to bluesky from xitter (and thus off my radar because fuck that site) but that's it. for every artist that quits, a new one takes their place. it's been like this since forever. and more generally, the fandom hasn't gotten "worse" since 2023 either, the damage had already been done by then.
He's probably right. I think a lot of new furries just aren't getting into making art, on top of what was mentioned here about oldbies leaving. The reason? Probably AI art, it's easier for a coomer to get off to because it isn't created by him, it's near-instant gratification because of how fast the AI generates it and also highly disappointing for their specific needs so it creates a rather addictive skinner-box style effect with their prompting. They don't need to communicate, they don't need to do dodgy paypal transactions to conceal the nature of the artwork that's being commissioned so they don't get banned, they don't need to put in the effort to build up artistic skills to the minimum level required to get shit done with confidence, etc.
