This shouldn't surprise anyone, India has been buying Russian oil in substantial amounts since 2022 and have been buying Russian military equipment for even longer. If you actually paid attention to and understood geopolitics you would realize that India has been more closely aligned with Russia than America. Trumps poor attempt at having America achieve autarky is just pushing them closer together and even making them play a little nicer with China.

Especially when it will cause domestic issues with his donor class who desperately want jeets who work for less than Americans. He'll pretend to retaliate by raising tariffs again, but he would never shut off the flood of H1B's because it ultimately hurts the tech billionaires more than it hurts India.
