Just did a scrape through, these are REALLY shit ARG's too. Every puzzle I've seen has either been "Use an item in a specific place" or "Here's another clever encoding/substitution cipher" as if he'd just bookmarked the multidecoder with no further consideration. Its not a puzzle, its just rote repetition of "get data, use data". I never thought I'd say this about any developer, but YandereDev does a better job with mysteries than Thor.
That is literally what the DEFCON badge challenges were.

Aside from the part where you had to talk to other attendees to get past the badge itself, after that it was all mighty boosh references, riddles and ROT13.

ARG's are a great idea.

It's especially great if you plan to have it before your game is actually done.

A little known GEM of a game named Marathon did this recently with their Alpha, worked out great for them.

Good question. From a quick scan: current last step according to a wiki fandom.

Honestly I don't know if someone here already did somewhat of a dive into the thing, would be curious to know.
It's a bit tempting to look into but... the milk is so plentiful already... and this looks kinda boring
Get your puzzle pieces ready.
This URL / shit is the exact same format for the defcon puzzles and the most interesting part here is that this whole """ARG""" does not even once give a fucking narrative or story-line respecting the investment. mald just does this to cultivate his gay little cult of self absorbent retards jerking him off. At the literal minimum of unfiction and ARGs you have a functional website and lore inside of it like "The Pendragon Archives" or an interactive website with a CLI like with "This House Has People In It" but here we just have an openly exposed and incomplete side jerk to an incomplete undertale knock off? It's like this faggot saw the taylor swift marketing shit or heared about the add an egg concept and ran full steam ahead but the worst part is that we all know he thinks this is actually genius. Like unironically he thinks this is the next cicada and that if he never finishes it then it will keep them always hooked. Also wasn't he saying that the project was cancelled? did he just say that to get sympathy and bitch fit to his polycule? seems about right. I fucking hope the unfiction community gets wind of this and starts ripping him to shreds about how lost media is a bad thing which is why they consider it traumatic in most works. Expanding a bit more on this there are functional unfiction games like Shipwrecked 64 that are complete and were created in significantly shorter timespans only using retro game aesthetics to then pull the rug out from under you that the 4:3 aspect ratio hides monsters in the side bars. I think it's funny that in a space overly filled with autistic gay furries that mald would be shunned for his shitty behaviour and incompetence.

Sorry that I have been inactive and lurking here. I have nothing I can add to the discussion about the code being dogshit without powerleveling but I will say that if you followed tutorials from youtube for 1 hour then you would be a better programmer than mald. Yanderedev negs this fucker. Why the fuck is cold fusion losing to the heat death of the universe? mald this is your fault.

his game KILL THE MOON? which has a demo, and llittle else??

I want to point out the "feature" of "Development streamed live every Monday from 12pm-10pm PST on Twitch".

And also the grammar mistakes; it's "run-and-gun" not "run and gun", "the level's" not "the levels", "its" not "it's", "power-ups" not "powerups".

I noticed his claims that he was some hacker for the Department of Energy. Got me curious, the DoE hackers generally cannot identify themselves, not because of their work with nuclear power plants but because the DoE's work with nuclear weaponry. Being identified as a DoE asset in that regard sometimes is a life or death situation. American nuclear warhead research, maintenance, and removal from service is handled by them and their cyber security teams are the front line in their defense against foreign espionage. They do not usually contract out from what I understand, as the DoE uses a seperate clearance system than the rest of the gov (DOE clearances: Confidential - a clearance which is no longer used outside of DoE but used to be used by every branch/agency, Low - corresponds to Secret, and Q which corresponds to Top Secret but can be similar to TS/SCI with special access tags). Because of this the DoE will do all investigations in house. That is not to say there are no contractors, for instance the DoE leases facilities in cooperation with (vetted) private sector companies (Pacific Northwest National Laboratory for example).

To get to my point, his story about being tackled by a guard is what really hits my bullshit meter. If that ever happened they would lock down a facility. There is no fucking shot they tried to get this mouth breather into a facility to 'epig haks' it. That is not how agencies like the DoE would do things, and if word got around you were the retard that got decked by the guardsman then holy shit nobody would want to work with you. DoE facilities are all secure environments similar to SCIFs, having a bad social rep is literally a career ender. Also the whole 'shove a thumb drive into the computer' thing he describes is hilarious because the first thing that agency will do with IT devices is disable their ability to accept foreign storage devices (servers even have an alarm that blares when you try and the doors to the room mag lock. Takes a guard with a masterkey to unlock it). So his story is extra outlandish.

In short: maldavious figtree is a massive faggot and women do not have sex with him.

If that ever happened they would lock down a facility.
Yeah, deconfliction is a huge part of those types of engagements because if you do incite a security response, you're more likely to just get shot. Because of this, there are usually a lot of training wheels attached to any sort of physical engagement, and a lot of those things are simulated. Instead of weirdo-with-long-hair legitimately trying to sneak something in and getting shot, they make a proposal and then security lets them LARP their way in, set up their stuff and then see if the blue team finds whatever they set up.

Stories like that, in high-stakes settings like that, are usually a dead giveaway that the person likely warmed the bench for most of their career.

This faggot should decide if the government is bad and shouldn't be trusted or the government is a literal god and SKG wasn't respectful enough to its divine authority.

that's why something as simple looking like game 'The Witness' i think comes off as fucking amazing because it's a game where you drag a damn dot across a little board and holy shit is it rewarding when you figure out where you put the stupid dot, even if it's the 500th time ( and you can usually easily ignore the pretentiousness of the game ), also that game continued to receive updates years later lol.
What parts of the game are pretentious? Was it the MP3 players that dumped exposition? I remember the developer expressed regret for even including them, but I have no idea why he thought they were a good idea to add in the first place.

I noticed his claims that he was some hacker for the Department of Energy
It's on his linkedin page. Eagle search group is apparently out of business now and the website is gone. I'd like to give Jason credit for that, but it's more likely they were just not doing anything useful and died after the government money ran out. I think that was recent because I remember reading about them getting some sort of grant from the department of labor for a period of time for god knows what. These grants are all public if anyone is in the mood to research and archive it before it falls off the map.

the G in ARG stands for "game". insane behavior dude. welcome to the finding out timeline *stretches*. I hope it was worth it bud.
ARGs being used for a videogame's publicity can work out just great if the people behind the game aren't retarded and are actually passionate about what they're doing, see the Portal ARG for instance, that worked out just fine for Valve and the community had tons of fun solving it.
Binding of Isaac: Afterbirth was supposed to have a single unlockable character behind an ARG, but (according to Edmund) a bunch of other content was also commented out by accident and he kept the ARG "wall" up because he didn't know. :story: So people were yelling at him for having less than half of the promised content but he was just like "wait it out bro trust me" because he thought it was only Keeper's stuff.
ARGs being used for marketing and publicity can be great and engaging, but a single fuckup can sour it for everyone. Isaac's community was on Ed's neck for a good year at least after this happened.

This faggot should decide if the government is bad and shouldn't be trusted or the government is a literal god and SKG wasn't respectful enough to its divine authority.
Government is useless. Government can't run anything. Government does not belong in games. Government should be kept far away from gaming. But don't you DARE tease Maldy in your game, because he will immediately file a DMCA and leverage the government's power to get your game deleted, then sue your ass for hurting his feelings.

It's so funny how he is now constantly repeating just how much he works on the game when it is apparent no work is being done at all, you've got plenty of other actual game dev creators putting out more in a month than this guy has put out in years.

Notice how despite touting how much he cares about the game dev community, Mald has never once really interacted with any game dev creators? He barely follows any on his socials either. He is unsurprisingly most active in tech bro circles where those guys aren't actual game devs and can't see through his grift.
I just wonder if the lack of progress is due to being lazy or if it's because he's hit a roadblock and can't figure it out.

me personally i didnt mind the mp3s too much because they were at least skippable if i wasn't in the mood, but it sometimes was confusing if it was supposed to be part of a story to the game or if it's literally all just standalone quotes and im not an enlightened smarty pants to get it... some of the mp3s are so fucking long and winded and are either wicked verbose or super vague talking about politics and religion ( yea im not smart enough to get it, also i think there's mp3s towards the end of the game you get to that wraps up the entire idea of the audio logs, which you can say is either redeeming or pretentiousness fucking squared ).

i did like finding the movies and the movies themselves being a part of a puzzle piece so to speak, i guess i was sort of projecting how i see others perceive jonathan blow over the years ( 15 years lol ) as pretentious, but could be the haters not liking that he's not a lovey dovey type when you ask him questions, or that he isn't self hating enough.

there is one audio puzzle with birds that was objectively analyzed through a spectrogram and found to be incorrect to the solution, jon blow refused outright to conceded he made any mistake and that everyone's wrong.

he also didnt like the parody of his game even though it's clear as day the creator of the parody loved the witness, so lack of self awareness doesn't help either.

at the end of the day i'd listen to jblow over 99% of people when it comes to systems programming and game development ( he even has good words about life advice sometimes ) even though i probably couldn't be friends with him.

Jason mentioned in some earlier video in this thread that everyone on the testing team went off to form their own company. Jason never mentioned if he got an offer to come along with them, but judging from Jason's ego, he'd love to tell people he declined a job offer, and instead went off to make video games. So I imagine the team fled after figuring out they could split his salary amongst themselves.
