A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

Green MP will campaign to stop concerts by someone the police have said there's not enough evidence to investigate but will not talk about Irish cunts screaming "Kill Tory MPs"
The first UK concert of rock star Marilyn Manson's tour has been cancelled after pressure from campaigners and an MP.
The first leg of his One Assassination Under God Tour had been set to kick off at Brighton Centre on 29 October.
On Saturday, fans who went online to contact Ticketmaster received a message saying "this event has been cancelled".
In January, prosecutors in the US said they would not file charges against Manson, whose legal name is Brian Warner, after a long-running investigation into allegations of sexual assault and domestic violence. The singer has repeatedly denied the accusations.
Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman said the allegations were too old under the law and the evidence not sufficient to charge the 56-year-old.
LA County sheriff's detectives had said early in 2021 that they were investigating Manson over alleged incidents between 2009 and 2011 in West Hollywood.
Earlier this month in an open letter to the Brighton and Hove City Council, Sian Berry, the Green MP for Brighton Pavilion, called for the October concert to be cancelled.
In the letter, which was co-signed by some victim support groups and the University of Sussex students' union, she wrote: "Many survivors in Brighton and Hove, and organisations supporting them, will have serious concerns about this booking and its wider impact on other people visiting the city centre, local residents and the wider community."

The letter, which was posted online, prompted a flood of responses from the public pointing out that Manson had not been found guilty of allegations against him and that a four-year investigation did not lead to charges.
Others branded the call to cancel the gig as censorship.
The message on Saturday from Ticketmaster read: "Ticket sales have stopped but there may be tickets available for other dates."
Five other UK gigs in October and November are still listed on ticketing websites.

Airport brothers make it to trial
judge told potential jurors in the trial of two brothers on trial over an alleged altercation with police at Manchester Airport that they 'must not allow yourselves to be influenced by anything you may have read or heard on the mainstream media or social media'.

Mohammed Fahir Amaaz, 20, and Muhammad Amaad, 26, both of Tarnside Close in Rochdale, appeared at Liverpool Crown Court today.

They have been charged with assault following video footage of an alleged incident involving police officers and members of the public in July last year.

A panel of 40 jurors was reduced to 28 after the panel was asked to complete a questionnaire.

As jury selection began, Judge Neil Flewitt KC told the panel of 24 potential jurors: "You will have realised from the questionnaire this trial involves events at Manchester Airport on July 23 last year which attracted a large amount of mainstream and social media interest."
He added that as the trial progresses there was likely to be further media comment.

He went on: "You must reach your verdicts in this trial based on the evidence presented in court and you must not allow yourselves to be influenced by anything you may have read or heard on the mainstream media or social media."
Judge Flewitt urged the panel not to look up any information about the case on the internet until they returned on Wednesday morning to resume jury selection.
Mr Amaaz is charged with assaulting a member of the public Abdulkareem Hamzah Abbas Ismaeil by beating him on July 23, 2024, at Manchester Airport.

He also faces a second charge that he assaulted PC Zachary Marsden causing actual bodily harm on the same date, also at Manchester Airport.
A third charge alleges he assaulted PC Lydia Ward causing actual bodily harm on the same date at the airport.
A fourth charge against him alleges he assaulted, by beating, an emergency worker, PC Ellie Cook.

His co defendant Muhammad Amaad, his brother, faces a single charge, namely that he assaulted PC Zachary Marsden at Manchester Airport on July 23.
The trial is scheduled to last three weeks.

For a rarity even on Reddit most people aren't on board. Of course the usual suspects are taking a break from blowing Kneecap to support these people

We're also open, tolerant and diverse
Welsh people Americans will have heard of;
Tom Jones
Catherine Zeta-Jones
Vinny Jones

Welsh diversity in action :)

That's not a meme - the war memorials were a good 50% Jones, with some Griffith mixed in for flavor.
I'm well aware, in another life I had to do some IT infrastructure work for employers who had some big Welsh sites.

Well over 70% of those employed had one of two surnames (and to pre-empt the usual questions yes, the other one was also a Welsh name).

You know, well-insulated houses also keep heat out, but you need something to move the heat out there in the first place. If you just had air conditioning, everything would be fine. Get a reversible heat pump, and you can use them for heating in the winter too, stop bitching about how you can't buy gas of Russia any more maybe.

Who needs air conditioning when you can just run a hose for a few minutes in the backyard.

Have a hot shower before bed. Yes you read that right. If it's hotter than the ambient temperature on your home then getting out of it is cool lovely relief.

And I know I've said this before but it *works*. Buy some of those small bags you put your clothes into and squish the air out of. In the morning, take your pillowcases and put them in aforementioned bag and pop in the freezer. Just before bed put them back on your pillows and enjoy.

Also moisturizer. Not for your face, for your body. I use udder cream for severe eczema. Currently lives in the fridge. It's a cool, lovely delight to slather myself in before bed.

Also drinking water is good but if you're sweating like a priest in a playground then you need to keep your electrolytes topped up too. If you've no dioralyte then a glass of squash or lemon or lime juice with a pinch- a small one, mind - of salt in works well (also good for a stinking hangover if it's the lime juice option).

I do a quick lap around my local petrol station as it has the strongest AC I've ever felt in my life and I pick up a corneto whilst I'm at it. Other then that I have my desk fan and I can always open a couple of windows to keep the air circulating.

If you have a fan put a bowl of cold water/ice in front of it. That way the air it blows will be chilled. It's very effective.
Ghetto air con ftw. A long time ago I lived on 17th floor of a high rise and this works a treat.

Also off top of my head: keep the Big Light off; don't burn candles; and for temporary relief, run your wrists under the cold tap and get them good and chilly. Also one I learned from working back shift in hospitality after getting home at 2am after 9 sweat and misery filled hours: put your feet in a bucket of cold water.

Oh another thing: if you're wanting to quit smoking,I found it easier over summer than over winter. The thought of burning something in my mouth when it was hot as balls out was awful. It took less effort and willpower to quit over summer. If you do and if you want to and are ready to,make the most of it and go for it.

I am proud to be Welsh
Just as an aside, have you ever watched anything by Cambrian Chronicles? It seems to be a perfect storm of autism, maps, history, and Emperor Claudius. The amount of history crammed into the valleys is probably the other reason why it's called The Big Country.

(And if you remember that one...)

Just don't drink from it, or people will call you mean names on the internet.

I have watched a lot of Cambrian Chronicles as Welsh History has always interested me greatly.

Very interesting that two new Right-Wing parties are starting now, when Labour are sliding and talk of regime change isn't going away,

FWIW, though I will still be backing Reform UK, I welcome both Lowe's and Habib's new parties, but just how well they'll do - who knows?

Certainly, Reform UK show no sign of slowing down and there's the chance that Restore Britain and Advance UK will soon go the same way as UKIP. Alternatively, post Nigel stepping down from Politics in a few years time (hopefully after a few years as PM) they could gain from Reform UK or amalgamate as one which would be the ideal thing.

Even if by then we're the 'Nationalist Party of the United Kingdom' then providing things are better than today, I doubt many will mind.

These parties smell foul. It's the type of games they play when they want to split the vote. Labour got in because Reform and conservatives split the vote. Trying to do the same to reform is short sighted or destructive. The better option would be to get Reform into power than pressure them with a more radical group. The radical group can take over Reform or pressure them in the right direction.
