THEIR garage.
THEIR cars.
All the meetups at the Rockport stadium.
At the edge of the map freeway.
All lost forever.
When you play a live service game, your progress is technically THEIRS because you're essentially borrowing time from them to play that game. It's like renting a space. It's your party but it's their space that you're having the party for.

Some of us are old enough to remember LAN parties where we would download Warcraft 3 off of each other's computers.

Live service games are not real. There's no reason I can't run local instances or private instances for myself and my friends. Any devs restricting this are handicapping their game and its reach so they can squeeze more money out of their players.

Software is not real estate. I'm not "renting" shit. I paid for a product, a piece of software, so it should be mine to do whatever the fuck I want with it.

Bottom line.

There is no cloud it's just someone else's computer

For people like Maldy Cloud is magic. 'Proprietary AWS magic that cannot be self hosted" (PostgreSQL instance)
Him and Theo are so full of shit it's sickening. 3/4 of (((required))) online infrastructure is probably open source already.

Throwback to super hacker take from Maldy that always triggers me. Decades of people working on formal understanding of software, yet reddit midwit will come and proclaim that programming is magic.

This is made increasingly more evident as people shift towards open source software. Hell, all of Denmark is dumping Windows in favor of Linux on their government computers this year.

Hmm, looks like yesterday's VOD was removed. Up to his old tricks again! Thankfully I snagged it before it went down. Maybe we've already got the juice we need but I'll take a little scrub just in case we missed some. I've got today's going as well.

How is it that you consistently have the worst, most brain dead takes on anything you say? You're a normalfag mouthpiece at this point
Have never liked the Stop Killing Games guy, find his arguments to be totally full of shit and am glad he lost. I searched him to celebrate in his thread but found it dead with a lot of chat in this thread instead and thus am celebrating here, celebrating the victory of his enemy.
Good to see that Maldavius Figtree has at least one genuine fan here. Good to know you're well versed in the whole situation if you can't even remember the name of the guy you "hate".

Yeah that's the way it is right now, but that's gay and retarded and it wasn't always like that. This is what le free market meme always leads to every single time, the only way to make suitniggers stop is by twisting their arm with pro-consumer regulations

I'm not defending it. I'm speaking matter of factly of the reality of live service games. I see his point, but within the literal example, that's essentially what it is: renting space. You have a right to push back against those practices however you see fit or just accept the conditions given from the developer/publisher with the understanding that times have changed.

You don't know what you're talking about, you're just opening your mouth and making moo noises like your average niggercattle "gamer" for the sake of talking about something you don't know anything about. I know, and I'm telling you to knock it off, Thor does enough of that for everybody.

"Vote with your wallet" niggers getting BTFO when the average consoooooomer is paying $120 for COD [current year]

Regulation is the only proven way to keep these faggot game companies from sucking every last kino drop of SOUL from our games.

What is your rebuttal?

But what did he do wrong?

I'm not defending it.

please stop.webp

Can somebody refute my post of why you disagree or where I went wrong instead of just personal attacks?

ANYWAY... how about that lolcow Maldavius, huh? Faggot.

Stop shitting up the thread with politics guys.
The politics of "Stop Killing Games" is on topic for this thread. Especially when there are faggots coming in here to glaze Mald and his opinions. Much like the conversations around cyber security, MMO's, and animal care on are on topic, so are "political" conversations around the preservation of video games.

In other words

Here's the retard's full tweet. T/A

I missed this, apparently he talked about it on stream too. Totally not assmad at all.
PirateSoftware today on stream responding to the new video rStop.mp4
"I'm coming at this from a game developer perspective." Mald is as much of a game developer as a high schooler playing with Unity, arguably less so. He does have skin in the game though, he's a literal corporate shill that knows if he says the wrong things he might hurt his bottom line with sponsorships or Offbrand, the publisher he is involved with. Dogshit behavior.
My god, he deleted it.

Edit: Totally not malding

Why did you delete your original post that had his tweet?

46:00 - Ross: Does he just say anything? Is that why he's popular?
Subtle unintentional insult from Ross.

And speaking of, there's a comment on his video:

Notice again how Ross has never said anything bad about Jason. He always goes for his arguments and not personal attacks.
It's absurd for Ross to think he's possibly "too volatile for peoples' tastes." Ross is not volatile at all, all of the volatility here stems from Mald. All of it...

Throwback to super hacker take from Maldy that always triggers me. Decades of people working on formal understanding of software, yet reddit midwit will come and proclaim that programming is magic.
Mald wants to present the image of programming as being magic so people see him as performing magic, he's basically a god. This is another case of "complex = good, simple = bad," actual notable programmers say the opposite of what Mald says and are much more humble when talking about it to the unacquainted. Kernighan, Ritchie, Thompson, Stroustrup, Linus, John Carmack, Knuth, Larry Wall, etc for example. Then there's Jason "Mald" Hall who presents himself as a programmer to try and impress others.

I'm not defending it. I'm speaking matter of factly of the reality of live service games. I see his point, but within the literal example, that's essentially what it is: renting space. Mutahar made the correct point: If we called it what it is, "renting" and that is how it was presented, more would be upset.

If you want to talk about the topic at hand, there's probably a better place for it on the farms and if not throw it in mass debates.

when i put the item in the cart it says buy, and afterwards confirm purchase

not 'sign up for this temporary service that may end whenever fuck i want'. that's tucked away in the eula, that still classifies it as a purchase

ross' point wasnt even this. sure, make a live service game, but when you're done with it, leave it in a playable state, rather than turning it into digital junk

leaving on a playable state can mean anything from 'keep the single player portion of it in without access to the internet' to 'release the server binaries'. it was never specified

maldy's point is he learned all his game developer knowledge at blizzard after diablo 2 and wotlk were released so hes a fucking industry shill

Imagine being on the side of history opposing:
>Buy a game
>It just works
Anyone who is against this is a phone nigger or a corpo kike.
Because he think that his developer larp is on pair with being a corporate magnate, which he's fucking not. Remember, his dad was a former employee at Blizzard (not a dev) and that's where his portfolio ends, he's a fraud. In his yandere like mind, he thinks his Game Maker slop "game" is matching his imaginary "over a decade of hacker expertise + Activision developer" portfolio and to implement anti-piracy measures on this slop, because he really think his shovelware is at that level. There are so many segments where he spergs out with corpo speech and how the "game market" work. That's his grift, to pretend to be a some type of authority in the gayming world, like those "CEO/investment" youtubers and self-improvment influencers.

That's why he is a corpo kike, he thinks his "product" needs the protection that big corpos have and to keep the illusion that he's a "professional" dev and not just a retarded nepo baby who can't code.

Edit: His dad was not even a dev.

His dad wasn't a developer, he was a project manager and director that was involved with the cinematic stuff. But yeah Mald cites "Blizzard employee" and deliberately conflates things so people believe Mald himself was a Blizzard dev that worked on WoW.

You know, Ross not blasting him out openly and simply debunking his arguments and being in disbelief at how retarded he is might be even better. Ross has both the high ground(altho he never lost it) and he makes Jason look like an uneducated dum-dum. The indirect jabs made at him are funny, too. I have a feeling Ross would do great at IBS, sort of like a centrist, less annoying DesTINY maybe.
I wonder how much seethe Ross calling him Maldavius Figtree even once would produce.

begging for the state to decide what is legal and what is illegal is what caused most of the mess
How do you propose to avoid this? Whatever entity other than the state, that you would endow with the power to make and enforce laws, would subsequently become the state. Anything else is rhetorics. There is no way to avoid this relationship between the two, unless you're willing to forego law entirely and live in direct ad hoc might-makes-right society, essentially at the level of a tribe of niggers.

We have our answer why

Other big names are noticing.
Mutahar actually talked about SKG last year, but instead of wholeheartedly supporting the petition (despite having several videos where he discusses the importance of game preservation), he decided to do his regular middle of the road bullshit in order to not offend Jason.
Now, with any traction gone, Jason being the butt of the joke and a month left on the clock, he pretends like this was always near and dear to his heart.
