Iran has no "friends" geopolitically, and there is no possibility of military retaliation beyond Islamic terrorist attacks domestically.
But on the geopolitical stage, this has shown that the US is continuing its lopsided patronage of Israel, and will take actions that go against it's own interests to that regard. While this is business as usual, given Trump's campaign promises and platform, it was ambiguous up until this point to rivals if this would continue, and any machinations that were being held off may start clicking into motion.
The US is like a strong poker player with a chip advantage who due to superstition refuses to play A10 spade suited. His refusal to play it goes against all logic and against his own benefits, but he's a strong enough player in spite of it that he still maintains a lead at the table. But it is a vulnerability, and the people playing against him know it.
