In a decision that plunged the Supreme Court into yet another culture war feud, the justices on Wednesday upheld a Tennessee law banning all gender affirming care for minors. In the last few years, fully half the states have adopted similar bans, leaving the other half, so far, allowing gender affirming care in the form of at minimum, hormone treatments prior to a teenager turning 18.

The vote was 6-to-3, along conservative/liberal lines.

Supporters of the bill were predictably elated over the win. As state Sen. Jack Johnson, the sponsor or the bill, put it in an interview with NPR late last year, the state bars minors from getting tattoos, or smoking, or drinking and, as he observed, "We regulate a number of different types of [medical] procedures, and we felt like this was the best public policy to prevent kids from suffering from irreversible consequences, things that cannot be undone."

The court fight over access to puberty blockers and other treatments for gender dysphoria was brought by three teenagers and their parents in Tennessee. They claimed that the ban on these treatments violated the constitutional guarantee to equal protection of the law by barring certain treatments only for kids who want to transition from their sex assigned at birth, while at the same time allowing the same medications to treat minors suffering from other conditions, everything from endometriosis to delaying the early onset of puberty.

The ACLU, which represented the challengers in the case, countered that the treatments that were at issue in Wednesday's case were endorsed as appropriate for teenagers by the major medical associations that deal with gender dysphoria, including the American Medical Association, the American Academy of Pediatrics, the American Association of Clinical Endocrinology, and the American Psychological Association.

But state Sen. Johnson points out that many countries in Western Europe have been dealing with this issue for much longer than the United States, and many of them in recent years have pulled back "because they're seeing that the adverse effects of some of these medications far outweigh any benefit they have."

Wednesday's Supreme Court decision was a big win for Tennessee and 24 other states, but there are many questions that remain unanswered. Can doctors continue previous treatments if taking kids off the medications is deemed too risky? And what about all the issues that have roiled institutions ranging from school boards to team sports. None of those has been resolved, so far anyway. Nor has the court yet tackled the question of parental rights to determine treatments for their kids.

Congrats to Kate "Chase" Strangio for being the first pooner to LOSE at the Supreme Court.

All that money, surgery and drugs just to turn into the weaselly fence character that gets roughed up by the loose cannon cop in every by-the-books crime film. Hope you're happy now, d00d.

I wish that Clarence "GigaNigga" Thomas would've just cut loose and pointed out that a) the entire swath of gun control legislation and regulation is done by non-experts and none of these 'people' have a problem with that and b) if children can consent to mastectomies and castration they can sure as hell consent to sex, a bridge that is definitely too far for 99.99 percent of people that support transing kids. Really, the fact that "what if the child consents?" went from derogatory libertarian joke to actual public policy is infuriating.

You'll note these people respond very badly to any claim that sex or gender identity is rooted in biology-that it is innate and essentialistic-they believe fundamentally that identity is malleable and "heteronormativity" is some sort of social false consciousness imposed on subjects whose "authentic" subjectivities are repressed or denied somehow.

Which really shot their case in the foot during oral arguments in this case, as Alito forced the squeaky-voiced pooner lawyer to admit that transgenderism is not an "immutable characteristic" such as would normally be defended against discrimination.

Im glad Thomas pointed out how WPATH admitted its perverse motivations, but I wish he could also have pointed out the sexual degenerates at the core of the organization. I guess nobody felt brave enough to write a brief pointing that out for the record.
IIRC, the Alabama case did, but the Biden admin dropped pursuing that one likely because they didn't want widespread publicity of WPATH's degeneracy.
And, even there, it's not one unified thing that's linking all these people together. It's a wide variety of different levels of desire, motivation, goals, etc. Some trans people are just auto-gynephiles who are turned on by cross-dressing and roleplaying as women. Some are people that want to go from a male prison population to a female one so they can rape more. Some are bull dykes with penis envy who want a flesh tube.
Even the ones who are crazy are crazy in different ways.

Trans identity correlates strongly with autism; narcissistic, borderline, and antisocial personality disorders; schizophrenia; depression; and anxiety. I'd bet that OCD factors in as well.

It's kind of like hoarding disorder in that there's no one illness that can be blamed, it's a whole bunch of different things. And I'd guess, much like there are different levels of hoarding disorder which greatly influence how well sufferers respond to treatment, it's the same with trans identity. The depressed sadsacks who think they'll be happier pretending to be the opposite sex can likely be helped with SSRIs and therapy. The narcs, borderlines, and schizophrenics won't be helped, not with real treatment or transitioning.

The defense of puberty blockers and HRT being endorsed by the American Psychological Association doesn't work for me because they supported the use of thorazine as common treatment. To assert that because they are an established organization of experts doesn't mean it's infallible. They can be and have been wrong on numerous occasions before.

Glad the judges agreed.

Yes, since this removes childrens from the pipeline. Plenty of kids get brainwashed into the troon cult early, while they are vulnerable. Previously, they'd get mutilated then either Stockholm themselves into the cult completely, kill themselves, or rarely wake up and detrans.

Without mutilating themselves into freaks while still hormonal teenagers, the big majority will just drop as teenage angst subside. It'll turn the same as scene or goth or other fashions. And like those, some will keep going and actually troon out as adults, but those ones were lost from the start
Extinction through living. Who knew

TLDR: You don't hate social constructivists enough.

Local news headline, 'Supreme Court OKs Tennessee ban on gender-affirming care for minors, big loss for transgender rights'.

Amazing that MSM is still pushing this story arc, considering this issue likely caused them to lose all three branches of government this past election.

Keep going, retards. Please.

If you read the oral arguments in the Skrmetti case, this outcome was not shocking and ultra-predictable.

I was searching for this text, but I remember hearing this in real time and thinking FINALLY someone cut through the gender BS to illustrate how bad the argument was! I know it's simple for the farms but it's even more sweet that a pooner got smacked down by a sitting supreme court judge.

Funny thing about that, it could, which is why they stopped such studies being carried out because if you could pinpoint the cause, you can create a "cure" theoretically. They know there's no basis for their bullshit. They cannot and will not allow any actual science to be conducted because they'd have to admit it's "all in le head".
Medical school suspends study that would have tortured transgender people for science

That's an interesting study proposal and I hadn't come across it before. It's a shame it didn't go forward, but not surprising, of course. However, it's not quite what I'm talking about in the sense that if you had like a 'static' body and could externally study it however you wanted, you couldn't find any hereditary or acquired defect in it that would be diagnostic.

In a broader sense, yes, you can analyze people's reactions to gauge what they're thinking or feeling. Maybe you'd test if someone was an auto-gynephile with a penile plethysmography test. Or use a lie detector test to see if you could get a man to confess that he just wanted to beat up women in MMA (not that they technically detect lying, but whatever).

In this case, based on the article, it sounds like they would be seeing how trans identifying people's brains react to bringing attention to the parts of themselves they dislike the most. They were going to take pictures of them in unitards and that should theoretically induce strong gender dysphoria in them. Their reaction, in turn, should be apparent on an MRI.

Well, that could perhaps tell you how genuine their claim of hating their penis and wanting it cut off is. But it's not identifying an underlying physical defect like that they have a 'female brain' in their male body. And trans ideology is based essentially on self-id, so even a non-reaction wouldn't actually exclude anyone on their view from being eligible for 'treatment'.

They just don't really care if someone is extremely distressed by their penis, a little distressed, indifferent, or in love with it. They're trans because they say they're trans and they can be bothered or unbothered by anything they want. Some people might desire top surgery and not bottom surgery. Others may want no surgeries and just hormones. Anything goes.

Contradiction spotted! Checkmate, bigots!

Real talk, this is an example of a far-left lunatic talking point (irreversible hormone injections in healthy children) being laundered by the ACLU into something that almost sounds reasonable to the uninformed (we give hormone treatment to some kids, why not others?). Glad to see SCOTUS smack that shit down, but don't forget that every major progressive organization is working under these far-left precepts.
It really is as simple as you've described.

Chelation therapy works well for those suffering from heavy metal poisoning, but, for those not thereby afflicted, its use is at best, useless, at worst, even lethal. And yet some crunchy, room-temperature-IQ hippie types will learn only that the process "removes toxins" and proceed onward to the surprised-Pikachu face after killing their kid with it.

And while I can't easily quote the earlier posters whom deserve the credit (I are filthy phonefag; pls no booly), to continue the evisceration of euphemism:

"Gender-affirming care" = Castration and sterilisation

"Bottom surgery" (see above)

"Top surgery" = Medically-unnecessary double mastectomy

"Trans kids" = Gaslit, brainwashed, or otherwise groomed child victims of a cult

"Conversion therapy" = (grr..., the absolute balls on these people...) = This one is just complete, Orwellian inversion: actual conversion therapy was intended to convert gay teens to straight ones, while these fucking troons are doing even worse and trying to convert them from gay teens into "straight" troons and pooners through surgical mutilation and endocrine system destruction.

Take this big, beautiful L, you fucking child-abusing freaks, and stick it right where your D used to be.

The funny part to me is HRT as a term has been around for decades and it used to mean old women taking estrogen supplements. At least until the left, when they still pretended to give a fuck about actual women, said woah woah woah you're interfering with a natural process for women and who knows what fucking with people's hormones will do? Golly.
Damnit, I missed this very important euphemism; thank you:

"Hormone replacement therapy" = Cross-sex hormone abuse

Real HRT replaces the hormones which had previously been produced endogenously, e.g.: estrogen for menopausal women, maybe T for men who've lost their nuts to cancer. It does not mix-'n-match freely!
