I think that's giving Redo a little too much credit. From what I've seen the rape is very much for audience titillation, whereas there's nothing erotic about it in Clockwork Orange (unless it's Nick we're talking about I guess). There's no meaningful social commentary on the horrors of sexual violence or the dangers of revenge that I could discern in it. In fairness I didn't watch or read it for myself, so maybe that subtext is buried somewhere under all the pornography. Edit: missed your point entirely, I'm retarded.

The drama with Nick overlapped with the Ralph drama and the Nick stuff got alot of coverage on Kino Casino which is sort-of arms length associated with hoffman. That would have brought it to his attention. I think the other part is that Ralph isn't generating the good drama he used to generate. Nick has become an industry and alot of people now want a piece of it.
