Prior to the Hep B vaccine, something like 20,000 children per year suffered Hep B infections and it increases your odds of developing liver cirrhosis and liver cancer later in life. Half of those cases were parental, meaning the mother had Hep B without knowing and passed it onto the child. Overall, there were around 200,000 to 300,000 cases of Hep B overall (not just children) prior to the vaccine, and the vaccine reduced this dramatically. Better health outcomes.
