Linux itself isn't but if you look at who is maintaining all the forks and Github shit it's nothing but programmer socks and rainbow tail furry butt plugs all the way down.
Worse, its programmer socks, furries, egotists and resume padders.
Used to be Open Source was the intersection of being a decent programmer, wanting something to achieve a goal, and just making it and putting it out there. Others who wanted it would just grab it, or maybe even offer some contributions to it to help it out. Friendly Neighborhood dynamics, as managed by internet nerds.
Now though, Open Source is seen as a point of pride among developers who think their dick size is equivalent to their commit count. Contributing to a project used to be about "Oh I like this tool but it needs X" and now its more about proving your better than others by tearing down someone elses code and putting your own in.
I got my contribution accepted to the kernel, so obviously I'm better than you. Shitty, petty playground things, but at least the code usually does work. Results, but bad ethics driving them, means they'll never come back to maintain it.
Troons meanwhile are mostly overrepresented because of the incredible levels of autism required, Furries already have a reputation as suspiciously wealthy tech enthusiasts, both are nothing special beyond needing online communities to mask their crippling real life issues with various forms of degeneracy. Its inevitable these fucks show up anywhere that allows digital entry and exit freely.
But the worst now are the Resume Padders. The mass Jeet flood, of shitty, patchwork, undocumented and unfit for purpose pull requests changing pointless shit so they can add contributing to another Open Source project to their shitstained resume, to try and bury the nepotistic education they 'earned' behind seemingly real world experience. I've seen jeet math with 20 hour days, I've seen jeet HTML that tries to draw outside the viewport as a variable storage, I've seen jeet sql queries that don't even have the right database name because they couldn't even bother cleaning up the stack overflow they stole. Now, I see so many jeet pulls for "Vulnerability Remediation" that amounts to them pretending they're security experts when they just asked ChatGPT to find 'issues' to fix, and bring back code that won't even compile its been so thoroughly mangled in places that don't even make sense.
Open source is already rapidly degrading in iteration speed and quality and reliability, we're going to be seeing more major outages and technical failures from core stacks just shitting the bed. The Linux Rust project is probably going to be a huge one, its a shitshow that doesn't even deliver on functional parity, for benefits that have already been proven to not exist, Memory safe my ass.
