Kayla presumably has other in-laws; i.e., siblings' spouses and the spouses' parents, etc. Given Kayla's family is local, it is theoretically possible. And if that had been the truth, that would indeed have been interesting. Nick's parents hosting April was entirely expected (at least to me, and I could swear it's been discussed or at least theorized).

It would have been a lot clearer for people skimming through just to say Nick's parents.

That aside, it really does point up how complicit and shit his parents are. They enable Nick and arrange/ control people just like he tries to, moving them around like little pawns on a chessboard.
