I suspect there are more than a few unreported cases where people bump off their dying parents. Maybe they don’t want to see them suffer. Maybe they’re just tired of having to take care of them. I think it happens more often than people think. I’ve always defined my time to go as when I need help to take a shit on a regular basis. If someone has to wipe my ass, then it’s time for me to go.

Bit of a rant here but fuck it. State really was the bad guy in Jack Kevorkian's story, he offered a peaceful way out for people (mostly elderly) suffering through some horrible shit who would have died anyways because of their condition.
If there is any truth to her being involved, it would have been an act of mercy IMO since the incident includes rapid onset of alzheimers, extreme pain caused by osteoporosis, and an alleged morphine overdose. She's just adamant she didn't do it at all and from what I know, the circumstances don't really make sense. The nursing home her mom was in called her the day before to have her come in saying her mom was likely going to die in 24 hours and also say they left the morphine just laying out for anyone to snatch and that she overdosed her mom with it. There isn't anything on camera. She was in a legal battle with the nursing home because she was unhappy with her mom's care. Part of the accusation is that she asked if her mom's pain or death could be eased with medication like morphine, but who wouldn't ask that in that situation?

Reminds me of the Rosemary Kuntz case where she disappeared while on a spiritual retreat. Although other info says she wasn't depressed at the time and she probably just got lost and confused, I wonder if this is also a possible suicide/assisted suicide given the new age circumstances. The Earth Circle Association's (now defunct) web page matches up with the timeline going back to 1999/2000, and I found another source about one of its tribe leaders and the general location. Most native tribes have highly confidential knowledge and lore they don't share outside of their inner circles (i.e. "this waterfall ravine is a portal to the spirit realm") and are notorious for covering up reservation crimes. Next thing they know, tourists are gonna swarm all over that place seeing if there really is some well-hidden path and exploit it. It's a catch-22, but the math somehow adds up.
I just hope they do it justice but nothing with even more attention for this stuff, even in true crime sphere they have lots of people who have never heard about it.
Also known as the Cash-Landrum incident and it had some fucked up but interesting health effects on people involved, might have been some classic US government shenanigans though since there was about 20 choppers buzzing around according to witnesses.

I’ve seen old people just have enough. They’ll stop eating or just decide to go for walk in the winter without a coat and let the elements try to take them. It seems to be something the we as a society all pretend doesn’t happen.

This reminded me of a big farming family patriarch I knew who had lots of land, livestock, etc. Multimillionaire but was declining in health fast as he was in his 80s. Decided in one of the coldest days of a polar vortex to get his mail (his mailbox was like a half mile away from his house) in an Gator and of course never made it back. Made the local news and everything. People were baffled why he’d do this but deciding he had enough and to leave the world on his own terms is a much better end than dying in a hospice somewhere.

I don't think he was expressing joy in killing. He's just always been a weirdo in terms of his public conduct even before he advocated for and practiced assisted suicide. I always thought his odd personality was mostly due to him having grown up as a complete intellectual outsider (he was one of those kid geniuses who couldn't really connect with his peers), which may have made it difficult for him to reflect on how his behavior is perceived by normal people.
