How much money will I lose if I start producing hooch in my apartment and selling it on the street?

Just curious for those who have started a business
>How much capital did you start with?
>How did you deal with the lack of income coming in early on?
I started off with a work van and about 5 thousand dollars of tools. It took 8 months to break 10,000 but only another two months after that to break 100,000. I simply did odd jobs and had enough money in savings to survive 8 months
Hi Kiwis, my business repairs industrial dumpsters . I currently have four employees and three service trucks. Does anyone have experience with betting on service contracts with US cities or the federal government? I'm hitting my profit potentials as an on-call repair company and would like to take the next steps forward.
Connecting with more customers and offering different but related service work increased my profit potentials by a lot. I get contacted by companies who do the government contract paperwork for us, all the time. Make sure you call potential customers kiwis :)

in august 2025, i’ve decided to become my own boss and start an IT consulting and computer/phone repair business. i have an EIN, i registered with my state using a DBA, and i’ve just finished working on my company website. right now im going over expenses and how to budget a business

is there any advice you can give to new business owners?
what are the dos and donts of being an owner
is it better to hire a CPA or how can i do taxes this upcoming year
once i purchase a building and hiring employees, i am only going to hire based autistic white men

On Alibaba I've had two separate people contact me offering to sell me counterfeit perfumes and colognes. So if you find niggers/gypsies selling perfume that's where it's coming from.

Keep your operations as light as you can and start working on your customer acquisition as soon as you can.
Squarespace/WordPress/Whatever website, Google Business profile , and a Yelp page are great places to start before customers start coming in so you have the foundation down while you have the time.
There are ways of making your service unique all over the market that you are going to stumble on as you go and it will be up to you to figure out if you can make it happen.
Don't worry about not having work for most of your first year, its typical, even in the hottest markets
Double emphasis on staying lean in your business and keeping expenses as low as you can without hurting the bottom line

Feel free to ask any specific questions you may be considering but don't worry about advanced questions like what you would need to employee people because you may not consider that for a while. Best of luck partner 🫡

thank you for your advice. i’ve basically been seeing what expenses are a must and what isn’t. i plan on getting my BTR soon before tax season, and im seeing what my must expenses are

obviously i need a domain and hosting which ive gotten for under $15. i dont need much considering it’ll be a static website without many users (if any right now)

ive spent most of my day, securing my VPS and accounts so no indians can try and brute force my accounts. as of right now i’ve only spent $100

That's good; I forgot to answer your tax question, I paid a local CPA only about 100 dollars or so until I hit larger profits like an actual business and I had to pay more. You could definitely get away without having one for a while but you definitely want to be safe than sorry probably after the $50,000 annual mark. I filed my business as a type S Corporation and pay myself a set salary. I pay myself as a bonus for what I'm actually worth to save lots of money on taxes in my state

thank you. i registered a google business profile and i applied for a business bank account after deciding i should just separate my finances and pay with my business card instead of my personal. i was pretty nervous and wasn’t sure if i should do it or not but the idea of being my own boss and leaving something behind (other than children) pushed me to jump

what kinds of taxes am i looking at if i put money i earn from my real job into my business that, as of yet, has no real income?

This. What is your customer acquisition plan? This should be your main focus right now.

Having a website is nice, having traffic is better. And it's hard with this type of businesses.

Who are your customers? Are you looking for the regular joe, are you looking for maintenance contracts? How do you reach them? How long does it take? How much does it cost you?

Worry about taxes when you have some to pay. I am not saying this is you, but a lot of people tend to have this idea in their mind that if they set everything up perfectly and neat, people will come. Then they go broke. Customer acquisition is key to any business. Without it, you could have the best business plan in the world and fail.

Do you mean funneling money from your job into your company as if you were cleaning it? That would be way too much tax, and would depend on your company form, you would know better than anyone.

If you're talking about investing money in your company, you can put that on the balance sheet as debt. There is no taxes on funding your company. You can actually offset some taxes depending on what you're doing with the cash injection.

I want to be able to do from home to commercial. I've recently spent money on advertising on social media, but it's been taking a while for them to approve ads and find the right keywords (but it's coming along). I also offer a 10% discount referral program. I am looking to start handing out business cards, try and get word of mouth going, and see what other advertising routes i can take. My SEO is good, but doesn't mean much if people don't know about the business and I'm not the only IT company with a similar name. I want to show people I'm better than the other IT companies that are in the area.

how good are you at organizing your reciepts and shit? do you have a lot of cogs or other expenses to keep track of? if the amount of shit to keep track of is manageable and you are organized than you dont need a cpa. they are helpful in paying the various taxes for payroll and monthly sales and for getting loans with believable fiancial paperwork.

did you form an corporate entity or are you sole prop?

It's a game you can play, but it requires discipline. I've been in self employment for 13 years at at the start it was the same thing. If it is a legitimate business expense, most are deductible but don't shy away from your taxes. At the start it can seem like a good idea but it isn't. Lets assume your business does "OK" and you need to legitimately be capable of giving and receiving credit, loans or equipment leases, you need to be clean on paper and in reality and the banks will hand you the money you need.

Sometime slinging money into a business can take years to claw back, if you've the stomach for it, you probably have the odds in your favor you have the right attitude to pull it off

They don't tax money you invest in yourself, not until you start getting revenue and IRS only considers it a real business if it's reported a profit in 3 out of 5 years otherwise it's a hobby and you can't write stuff off.

i'm pretty on top of it, considering my expenses aren't terribly bad. i bookkeep along with the same app i do invoices so it's pretty easy to have everything in one place. it's manageable right now
