People complained that Zesty's video was too long and should have been reduced to around 40 minutes. Yet here we have this Comp-Cuck uploading a nearly four-hour rant as he plays post-humorous defense for a gaming scene with fewer than a thousand people active now. The retards at r/TF2 and it's adjacent spheres might make an exception for this video from an "approved" created but I doubt many will bother watching it beyond the first 30 minutes. Maybe parrot the Spark Notes version that somebody else provides, however, would they? Since he's basically putting all the sins of the TF2 world on their "filthy casual" hands now. I mean hey, I'm all for shitting on the modern fanbase that infects the game, however has he forgotten that those "casual sinners" and "tourists" make up much of his audience? That his livelihood depend on how "memeable" the game is?

I mean it's obvious that he is still really, honest to god thinks, Competitive can still save TF2. So much so that he's concocted this massive revisionist cope to try and explain how his precious 6v6 format never took off and they "dindu, nuffin". One that was only possible by the game being casual and having a community to fit alongside it. People that are a part of this good time may not visit this place and read this very message, but I am thankful to each and every one of them. Made me feel like I'm half my age.

Genuinely. It's a shame they took the path of making it into a gimmicky insta-kill ambusher when it plays perfectly well as a defensive utility with potential to team wipe. Even before reflects were made minicrits, the sheer notion of "ruh oh, this pyro might reflect" is enough to stunt soldiers to the point they don't dare shoot and die because of it. Add in using the shotgun to fuck up pyro mains with they unusuals and wacky weapons, and then homewrecker just for the sake of fucking up spies. They awkwardly manage to kill the engineer, sap the sentry and die. They managed their goa- wups, knocked off.

I've revisited some old communities recently and even though a lot of people returned during Covid to stay for good, they've obviously changed. TF2 however is the exact same. Same browser, same UI, same servers on my favorites having players. And if not, I can open up matchmaking and USUALLY be among memers who actually use the chat. The fact alone they play TF2 and not some Apex esque slop also speaks volume of the quality of their person. Who the fuck plays TF2 in 2025? The same ones who did it in 2015, seemingly.

Few things scratch the autistic itch of healing people and landing 90 hp arrows on people about to die 1v1. Knowing from 6v6 how much a 50 hp buff can help someone out. Seeing the skilled top fragger return to -you- for buffs because he knows I prioritize patient tourists over a random heavy feels very rewarding. Sadly, I mostly boot up TF2 when I'm drunk as shit and thus don't have many good memories attached to it anymore. I more or less imploded my 6v6 career with alcoholic 6v6 mixes even though at that point I had already tapped out. Pub play is superior anyway; you can play whenever you want and you don't sign up for 90 minutes of misery being rolled by a better team.

I'm still fucking sour I sold my green energy gen 1-2 hats for chump change. I had to hit up inactive accounts and everything cause I wanted specifically early hats.

The short version of how it works: the game doesn't verify assets when loading them, so you can exploit that by replacing the game's files with anything you want, as long as they follow the right structure and have the same file size.

Anyway: It used to be that whenever I was in TF2, I was drunk. Recently I picked it back up for real and actually enjoyed a lot of the gameplay, but my 6v6 past just keeps digging at me. I revisited some of the forums, and facing mortality in a few friends having fucking died during those years, someone made a comment that roughly ~600 people signed up for the latest ETF2L season. "Wow that's a lo-" til you realize that 'dead' fighting games tend to have more than that amount still. TF2 was never a huge esport but it had that niche autistic appeal. Insomnia LAN in the UK was basically the only real TF2 LAN and apparently it will no longer host TF2. Add in the comics having concluded and it honestly feels like the game is joever.

It feels like a waste to play TF2 without the intent to play competitive. The only reason pub playing was appealing was the people who played it, and obviously they all moved on at this point. Even those who played competitive. It'd be infinitely easier to get into any modern esports game than to keep breathing life into TF2, but nonetheless the social structure of even competitive play is very appealing. You can shoot the shit and add players from the opposite team and applaud one another on airshots. It's a PvP game but it's similar to darts or bowling; you can lose and still find something positive in how you did so. You get shot in counter-strike, there's nothing positive about it.

I've scoured a few sources like this and 4chan for servers and there's like all of 5 worth playing in the EU, only 3 of which populate regularly. It's pretty sad in a scope of wanting to get back into the game. Hell, the TF2 stream list on tf.tv is majorly non-TF2 streams. People moved on to things more worthwhile.

Brother, nobody in the comp scene took that shit serious. They did a few stacked runs for the memes and quit. THEN all the 'compfags' took over; the tryhard youtubers and pub heroes who thought themselves better, yet not good enough to go the normal route of external platforms and IRC. Ironically, very reminiscent of communities like Monster Hunter: Rampant toxic elitism yet from people who are too scared to engage with actual leaderboards, speedrunning or what have you. MYM dropped after tf2lobby was a thing and there's still such better platforms to do competitive pugging in.

because despite his antics he's still a normal autist, not to be the defense brigade but to explain what's what:

1. he's not adjacent nor approved by 4chan since he detached himself pretty hard from tf2g, last instances where you'll see him be actively involved is when he entered and proved to be himself on a thread from 2019(?)
2. then he's basically grown up compared to his baby face period, which in turn means that he's got anything but a 4chan-esque personality since on his streams he mostly avoids picking fights and avoids talking about politics when it's about doing youtube (he stopped doing twitch a long time ago) streams
3. he heavily dislikes the concept of parasociality and vtubers so he's simply not going anywhere near them
