A 16-year-old track athlete was killed during a championship meet Wednesday morning in Texas by a member of another team, officials said.

Frisco Police confirmed the student-athlete died "despite lifesaving measures." The suspect, 17-year-old Karmelo Anthony, has been charged with first-degree murder.

A student from Frisco Memorial was the victim, according to local reports. Frisco Memorial Principal Brook Fesco wrote in an email obtained by Fox News Digital that Austin Metcalf, a junior at the school, had died Wednesday.

The incident occurred at about 10 a.m. at Kuykendall Stadium at the University Interscholasic League's District 11-5A championship meet. Anthony attends Frisco Centennial, roughly 7 miles away from Frisco Memorial.

According to the Frisco Independent School District, the meet was suspended shortly after the incident. The ISD added that the stadium "was immediately secured, and students were released and sent back to their home campus on FISD buses with expediency."

In her email, Fesco said the school "will acknowledge Austin’s death during 2nd period and will offer support throughout the day," adding counselors would be available.

"As a parent, your guidance and support will be important in helping your child process grief. Talking about this together, face-to-face, will give you a chance to discuss how your family understands and copes with loss. You may also want to discuss with your child how to be a supportive friend to classmates," Fesco wrote. "This loss might remind your student of past losses as well. The most important thing you can do is provide your child a chance to be heard and to express their feelings."

"The Frisco Police Department grieves with all those affected by this devastating loss and extends its deepest condolences to the victim’s family, students, and staff who are experiencing unimaginable pain," the department said in a statement. "The department is collaborating with the Frisco Independent School District and will continue to provide any support they need during this incredibly difficult time."

Metcalf, who also played football at the school, participated in both the boys shot put and discus events earlier in the day, with threw distances of 39 feet, 9¾ inches and 86 feet, 4 inches, respectively.

Anthony ran the boys' 100-meter dash in 12.38 seconds and was scheduled to compete in the long jump.

Eight schools competed at the meet, according to MileSplit.

What also seems to have been lost in the black Twitter deluge of bullshit is that Karmelo wasn’t just peacefully sitting under the tent, he was mouthing off and being offensive.

Combine this with the earlier revelations that he had discussed wanting to stab someone for several days beforehand, and it begins to look like he may have been in the tent, not even to steal, but simply to provoke a fight where he'd be able to kill someone. He may have even had a self-defense angle in mind. "Just gotta make them touch me first."

Yes its a daytime track meet during school hours. You could at any point go to this track meet and watch. Your only limiting factor being your own classes and if you're fine with skipping them.

What you can't do, for any sport, is go into the visiting team locker room. Even my podunk smalltown highschool had a locker room for visiting teams. Why? This is where they put their shit. To include personal items. At a track meet, weather aside, this is the primary reason for having a tent or designated area for the team. A place to put your shit. This is where the robbery angle comes in. At any sporting event where all of the teams are outside and doing stuff all of their personal stuff is also out in the open. Its very easy to steal here because all it takes is a moment of distraction and someone walks off with a sports bag that doesn't belong to them and nobody is the wiser. What these retards are trying to do here is conflate IDK, public spectator areas with this. What we are talking about is the equivalent of going to the opposing team locker room or in baseball right into the other teams dugout. What purpose do you have for being there?

This happens absolutely all the time in all kinds of events. In no way is it limited to high school. Some years ago I was at a skydiving event and some people from out of town were competing in something. They had their gear under a little tent like this because it was Florida and hot. They got distracted at an event full of adults and someone walked off with $30k in skydiving parachutes.

The one time I saw it was municipal AYSO Soccer. One dad was really into cheering on his kid, he'd literally run up and down and both sides of the field to shout and shit. It got so bad, the Referees told him to go sit in the area for his kid's team. This was a town league for children, like 8-10 year olds.

As a kid, it just seemed like something you did; also helped keep drunk parents under control as they're more likely to start shit with the other team. As an adult, people have gotten shot/stabbed/killed over their favorite sports ball teams.

Yeah, you're right, it does say that, but I'm unsure where they got that information. It seems too specific to be made up, but by the final recorded times on the website that's linked, it was too slow for him to have made the final and thus his participation in the meet was apparently just one heat, from which he did not progress.... and so his name's not in the results.

Can you provide the link to the results in the screenshot? I wasn't able to find the meet for that day when I looked previously. I thought they just scrapped the day due to the murder.

His profile has that time, but doesn't look specific to that event. Okay, found it: here is the result and it's just his personal best, not the day of the murder. It took place on 3/22/2025. So it looks like it's not confirmed he ran that day, but not ruled out yet. Of course, large publications are reporting this time as proof that he ran that day. I hate journoscum.
