I am very surprised, and quite puzzled, that hector continues cosplaying as a vtuber girl. Everyone knows, and it's not like people would suddenly cancel him if he wanted to stream as an anime character from time to time. It would probably be painful to watch for people without some form of brain damage, but i fail to see what Hector gets out of adamantly denying that he is Lina, other than people finding him embarrassing.

On the contrary, everything he does just screams like he seeks some attention via drama, so maybe he is doing it so that for each drama he can have twice the coverage? Hector leaves the lkml, phoronix article number 1, Lina leaves the lkml, phoronix article number 2.

I genuinely think it's just a way to live out his AGP fantasy, in a "becoming a cute animu Rust girlfriend I wish I had" kind of way without having to fully commit to being a tranny yet. He will probably admit to being Lina once he inevitably admits he's a tranny now and all the heckin unwholesome chuds basically forced him out of the closet instead of letting him heckin explore himself more as his vtuber alter

What's fascinating to me about the whole thing is how many people are treating Lina as if it is a real person distinct from Hector. I don't think anybody actually believe that Lina is an anonymous Tokyo Hacker Girl; they're just all playing along with Hector's imaginary friend. It's one of the most batshit crazy cringe inducing things I've ever seen.

Hector has three ways he can go with this, he can acknowledge that he is Lina and pretend like he never intended to fool anyone, he can continue as he has been and all the faggot gooners will continue to play along until they find a better avatar to put in the spank bank, or more interestingly he can claim he is host to a "DID System" and go full cookachoo.

While the last one is my favorite, I don't think it's very likely considering how quickly that fad died off. That's a shame, too. It would be fun watching him spin up "personalities" to garner sympathy and excuse his past misdeeds.

Then I think you’re going to love this:

While there is no way to prove that Henry Martin is Hector Martin, if it’s fake, the prankster is putting an absurd amount of effort into selling it. Henry has been sharing a bunch of legitimate Linux kernel bugs, offering fixes, and when he replies to emails the start of the reply-quote section is in Japanese.

What an amazing crashout. Hector never fails to deliver.

First he has what must be some manic paranoid episode where his brain is on fire. Completely failing to read simple to understand text and instead substituting it for his paranoid fever-dream.

Then, a little later he realizes how complete unhinged he has been he tries to come up with some justification that explains how his behavior was completely rational and justified and not at all completely unhinged.
So he concotions some explanation that there was a missing comma in the original email and that is the reason for this all.
See, it was not Hector's fault at all. It was that other guy that left out a comma in his post so Hectors reaction and behavior was completely logical and rational after all.
And in Hectors mind this makes perfect sense and it explains everything.

If anyone has ever doubted that Hector is severely autistic this should put those doubts to rest.
The "missing-comma" explanation is superbly autistic.

The reply-quote section seems to actually be in Chinese, not Japanese. Most of the patches are just adding null pointer checks (only a few lines of code), which would be out of character for Hector, so it is not likely to be him.

Agree. This is 100% not Hector.
Checking for and adding missing NULL pointer checks is very important work that is both boring and takes a lot of time because you have to check if the pointer can actually be NULL at that place which requires you audit the rest of the code that touches that variable and analyze its lifetime.
(The kernel folks frowns on adding these kind of checks to places where it can be proven that the pointer can never be NULL as it makes the code harder to read and makes the code more confusing)((if you add a NULL pointer check where none is needed then that shows you do not actually understand the code and thus all your contributions become suspect.))

This is very important work but it is not glamorous or flashy at all.
It is basically someone that does some very boring work not for fame and fortune(because there is none) but because it is important it gets done.
100% certain that a narc like Hector would never ever spend time on something boring like that.

TL;DR - Yep, chinese name, chinese IP, whois says he's a chink

Either way it's confirmed the guy pretending to be hector isn't hector, and is a chink (ew)
It is probably just a coincidence. It is relatively common that chineese take on made up english names when interacting with the outside world and has nothing to do with The Hector Martin.

It's completely normal for chinese people to give themselves a "foreign" name that they use, because their chinese names are tough to pronounce correctly for non-chinese. Almost all of them do when they interact with non-chinese people in real life. What comes with chinese people using western names is that they sometimes tend to choose quite rare or uncommon ones.

This case looks completely legit for a regular chinese guy doing some kernel work. Maybe they even were inspired by Hector for originally choosing their name. Maybe not. Who knows.
