That is such a genuinely horrific life for that woman to have to live. The uncomfortable fact is that everyone involved would be better off if it was the norm for children and adults with that level of disability to live in a full-time care home. There were serious cases of abuse in those homes in the past, but that meant reform was needed, not abolition.

The same is also true for people with severe physical disabilities, even if they are mentally more capable. It's not possible for parents to look after their children well into adulthood if they are completely physically dependant. I have friends and relatives with both severely autistic and severely physically disabled children and the limitations of what parents can do in a home setting becomes very clear once the child is past the age of 7 or 8.

I genuinely can't imagine what it's going to be like as their children become adults, especially for those with boys who will one day have to manage to look after physically grown men, with male strength and the mind of a small child, as they themselves head into their elder years. It's also rarely talked about, but most of these people go through normal hormonal puberty and feel sexual urges that they have no mental capacity to control. It can be very dangerous for family members or women/children they come into contact with.

The Maldives are dinky and going around adds only a tiny fraction of the distance to Iran. But more importantly, the Maldives doesn't have any meaningful air defense and its population is all clustered together on one tiny island--bomber bait. They're not in a position to tell US bombers to take the long way.

And even in this case, it's the last part there. Is medicine and a cure not considered the works of God who is good? Wouldn't being able to cure or prevent this shit be a miracle?

Preventative screening for retard genes and mandatory IVF for high risk cases. I'm not kidding. If society is obligated to care for such people, as is commonly held, then society at large has an interest in prevention.

No one who intentionally squirts out retards should receive government subsidies for doing so.

Maldives has a massive ocean territory and is a strategically relevant location. Kinda like Greenland. Every country's diplomacy includes proxy actions.

This is United-States-PG2 so we don't have to get in the weeds on international monkey business. The Maldives is a Muslim country. Turkey (also Muslim) is "friendlier" with Qatar lately. Turkey and Qatar seem to prefer deescalating a potential attack on Iran. Saudi's and their proxies seem to lean in favor of Israel and allowing a strike on Iran to happen.

It's the Middle East, so it's a retarded mess. I don't want to end up talking about shit like Azerbaijan and Kuwait and end up going all the way back to Göbekli Tepe.

If there is any truth to the NYT article, it seems an imminent attack on Iran looks less likely in the short term.
