hmm, interesting that he notes it's co-ed at non-elite level (eh I'd say it's more like lower level and practice is coed a lot) - there are coed ultimate leagues too and mixed doubles tennis doesn't make tennis gender neutral
and you know how collegiate fencing is co-ed - the team points are combined. The men and the women do NOT fence one-another

but he suspiciously fails to note that the tournament in question was specifically a women's tournament ...as in NOT co-ed.

The great thing about fencing is that you don’t have to draw the face, so we’re deprived of whatever melty-faced attempt at caricature Billy would have been forced to make.

hmm. non-elite levels, I wonder which sources used that term Billy got that term from when he clearly was looking up a sport he doesn't give a shit about.

hell, that fencer could even take a note from Bill do it in solidarity with other female athletes -it was apparently a designated women's competition after all
