I didn't say I'm richer, I said the money isn't easy. Spending your day dealing with drunk ass dirty fuckers with mental issues is not an easy buck. Also most liquor stores aren't making a million a year unless they are in major cities which just adds to the headache.

I worked in quite a few, my old boss owned a chain of them before he sold them all.

Believe it or not, the ones in the shittier areas make more money, but it's because of volume. Soccer mom in the rich area buys a $10 bottle of wine every 2 or 3 days. The poor area dude who has nothing better to do with his time, buys 2 or 3 half pints of shitty vodka a day, plus a pack of cigarettes. That's $10 off him in a single day, and there's like a dozen of them for each store.

Let's say $3000 a day, on 30% profit, then subtract employee pay, about 200-300 daily for all. That's 700 a day, it's about a quarter million in profit a year.

For this to work you need to outsource your financing to a b- and below company so they take the hit when bills aren't being paid.
Not sure what their rip is, but you'll always end up with more than what a collection agency will recover.

Ok but you said they made a million a year and I said, "no they don't." and now the number has dropped to a slightly more realistic number of $219,000 after (some) payroll. Now you have to calculate taxes, which vary widely from state to state. Then you will need money for the licensee and repairs. The licensee will be a fixed rate but repairs can vary from year to year. Some years next to nothing and other years maybe 25% of your income. Yes that money can be written off as business expenses but they still eat into your bottom line.

As a general rule of thumb a business should make 10% back per year for what you buy it for. So whatever he sold his stores at should give you an idea as what he was actually making. To be clear that doesn't mean he was actually making 10% of the sale price per year. He could have been making 5%. The 10% rule is just a general guideline on what would be a good investment for the buyer. I would be VERY surprised if he sold for over 10% though unless he really needed the money.

There are a bunch more variables such as labor exploitation, under the counter income, using family to work for you etc, that I didn't discuss but can all affect the bottom line. The more shady one is the more they will make.

Anyways I stand by what I said which is it isn't an easy buck and the average liquor store isn't making anything close to a million a year.
