People who are currently hooked on buying Temu crap fail to understand how bad China really is.

China is the biggest exporter of counterfeit goods; there's a 50/50 chance those overpriced kicks and pricy handbags they're buying from legitimate sites are FAKE because China cheated the retailer, and only Nike and Louis Vuitton can tell if the product is real or fake a first sight. That's how good China is at counterfeiting.

But wait! There's more!! China does not have a problem with counterfeiting cheaper items either. They'll gladly sell fake pearls, fake jade, fake leather, and fake silk, because these are somewhat hard to distinguish from real, and a lot of people can't tell the difference. They like cheating in the costume jewelry market too; marketing jewelry as gold-plated silver at higher prices, and delivering low-quality gold-plated zinc. This scam is a favorite, because it's very hard to tell what a jewelry item is filled with, without badly damaging or destroying the item. They're big fans of selling cubic zirconia as much more expensive lab-created diamonds (moissanite). And if they get caught faking? Close their shops and open three new ones under different names, selling the same stuff.

Remember when the Chinese poisoned our dogs, cats, and infants by putting melamine in their food? I do, and most of the people who bought the tainted food had NO IDEA that it was made in China. And I don't think I need to talk about how they're poisoning some of us with fentanyl.

Let's not forget about the GROSS intellectual property theft either. A lot of the items that China uses to claim "Most Advanced Nation in the World!" status are made with stolen intellectual property, and made worse than the original due to shortcuts and shoddy workmanship.

These are unforgiveable things. We can't be trading partners with a country that rips us off so shamelessly, even to the point of PURPOSEFULLY KILLING US AND OUR PETS. We can't have it, not for any amount of discount.

And speaking of shameful displays, we really can't be trading partners with India either. Not until they close all the West Bengal call centers that are scamming American elderly. Sorry, but this complete lack of morals should disqualify India until they fix it.
I wasn't able to follow in my grandfather's footsteps and kill communists, but watching China collapse in my lifetime will have to do.
My money's on the penguins.

I used to be way more positive about Libertarians before I realized that most of them are only Libertarians because they want to get away with various cons and schemes they're running or intending on running.

Libertarians are ideological niggers.
Some libertarian ideas are good.
When you call yourself a Libertarian, and talk about the NAP, you lose me.

The libertarian argument construction is as follows:

- History dump of economic theory
- Let’s examine current day
- Rothbard said this. Maybe it will work, but blame everyone.

DOGE is gutting the government. Department of Education will be nuked (or at least just going to fact check curriculums so there is no gay brainwashing. Russ is free.

If Trump were to announce that he is going to secure the US dollar with the largest crypto bank, which I think is in play, libertarians will complain that part of the crypto will be used for the defense budget. Libertarians, take your Ws when you can.
I think you forgot a few "dude weed LMAO"s.

And yet, I have family that had to deal with exactly that: some illegal alien having filed taxes in their name using their SSN. Are you genuinely surprised that an illegal alien would be that retarded? Have you forgotten that we are posting on a site that was originally started for laughing at retards?
Thats identity theft, which is not what I am talking about. I’m talking about the people who are here illegally that are motivated to file taxes to bolster their applications before the government. An alien who steals an SS card cannot submit the tax filing as evidence in their case because the filing would not be under their name.

Lolbertarians are fucking retarded. One of the funniest forums you can read is the politics boards of ECCIE, the prostitute forum. It's absolutely rife with lolberts and their delusional takes and every once and a while you get to see a whore berate their clients for their shit political opinions.

They can make some good points from time to time but Libertarianism as an ideological position is prone to enabling issues that may be destructive to society as a whole.

It's strange, while both have libertarian tendencies Massie in the past at least seemed accepting of tariffs. I don't know if he has changed his stance or not. Maybe he is fine with tariffs but wants lower taxes?

I think he sees tariffs as a less evil form of taxation, but doesn't buy into the protectionist arguments about industry and trade balances and such. There's also the fact that the tariffs were raised before anything else was lowered, meaning it's just a massive tax increase at the moment.

R/economics is having a stroke trying to spin this whole situation
Economics is weird because every economist quoted in the media seems to have never paid attention in any of their classes. It's the only field I can think of where the vast majority of academics are completely and utterly incompetent. If they had paid attention, they would have learned that while a trade deficit with any one country is not necessarily a bad thing (if they produce something you need/want and can't make yourself, for example), it is also true that net trade deficit with all countries is bad because overall, wealth is leaving your country.

I can't believe I'm seeing a party flip in my lifetime, reps are becoming pro worker and dems are becoming pro business. How does your seething hatred of 1 man make you throw away the ideals you've had developed for decades.
Democrats weren't pro-worker even since Clinton became president. Really from 1980-2015 we just let the workers get fucked over by free trade, increased financialization of the economy, mass immigration, and increasing wealth inequality. It took a billionaire wrestler to make pro-labor politics hip again.
