A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.


But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

I skimmed through; complete nothing of substance it's the typical civ nat trash, complete with muh based sikh bidness man at the end. Nice to see the window shifting in the right direction at least but browns will never be Brits simple as.
There is one very good thing from it though; Multiculturalism is dead, that's an excellent first step, if I'm a position to vote for him I will do.
That said not til the day there's an Act of Parliament declaring Enoch Powell to have been right will I actually take any of their shit seriously.

Seems odd to talk about demographics, immigration, but then end it on some CivNat stuff with a Sikh but I'll play devil's advocate and say it might have been necessary to avoid getting removed from his shadow secretary position and removed from the party altogether for doing a racism.

The other possible 'good' is that it may indicate a proliferation of the sentiment of anti-immigration within the Conservatives. A majority of the tweet was dedicated to demographics, and whilst it couched in a few places by CivNat rhetoric (Sikh anecdote like you mentioned + mentions of integration) I think the most important and startling (for some people) details at the start are why he had to be tactful near the end. I still won't vote Tory next election but it's good to know some things aren't confined to Reform and Homeland. Deportations, re-migration and pay-to-leave need to be openly talked about now, try as Farage might to keep a lid on them. Politicians in general seem to be 10-20 years behind the rest of the population when it comes to what they actually want. Right now they're only just reaching the CivNat shit being espoused in the early to mid 2010s. At this rate they'll be discussing deportations and the issues with demographics openly come 2035.

He lost me there. You can't argue for integration and comment on how migrants are opening sharia courts and shagging their cousins, then hand-wave away the religion that allows it.
Balls to religious freedoms. We're a Christian nation and it that should be the only religion allowed - I'll give exception to Buddhists because come on, they're Buddhist.

They used to have pretty large empires in Asia.

The same genocide that the BBC reported on in a fake setting, blaming the natives for expelling the most hated religion known to man?

I'm genuinely asking because that's the only genocide I know of.

That’s the one. No one cared except the BBC because they were the wrong type of Muslim. Kinda like in Sudan.

I remember watching the 'live' reports and how the BBC tried painting the muslims as innocent...then the full story came out about how the muzzies were raping, stealing and just acting muslim, until the buddhists did what no other country has done, and wiped them out.

Buddhists keep their country while we lose ours. Maybe a lesson to be learned.

Yes I do. No other western military commissions officers with the equivalent of two fucking A-Levels.

St Cyr is a 3 year undergraduate course, West point and every other US miltiary service academy is 4. Western nations that have short courses for Officers require an undergraduate degree for entry.

1 in 8 soldiers in the Army is an officer, the Marines are fucking worse they have some former country estate that shits them out faster than sandhurst.

With a regiment like the Irish Guards, a huge proportion of their officers come from a single public school, Ampleforth. The overwhelming majority have some sort of family connection to the regiment (and I don't mean the other ranks). The cavalry are worse, all the problems with AJAX, that's largely down to dumb as fuck cavalry officers fucking up writing the requirements and trials.

I'm not using the word dumb as some perjorative, I literally mean that many of them are sub 80 IQ.

Here's a better way, ask any religious person this queastion. "God has made himself a mortal human on earth, what race is he?" any answers other than white get you put up against the wall.

That quote in particular comes from the Ashin Wirathu, he said: "You can be full of kindness and love but you cannot sleep next to a mad dog." Funny that he's known as the "face of Buddhist terror", Mahakala would be proud.

The story
Police have released images of 22 men they want to trace after a large-scale fight in Sheffield.
The disorder took place on Woodbourn Road on 25 May last year, South Yorkshire Police said.
A force spokesperson said officers believed it involved two groups from the Eritrean community, with one faction supportive of Eritrean independence and the other in opposition.
Eighteen people have so far been charged with offences including violent disorder, possession of an offensive weapon and wounding, they added.

According to police, the group opposing independence travelled into the area to target an Eritrean Independence Day celebration taking place at the Pakistan Muslim Centre.
A group of about 200 people gathered at the location, where violence involving weapons erupted both inside and outside the centre and on the surrounding streets.
The centre was damaged along with vehicles parked nearby.

The spokesperson said "multiple" people were injured, including some seriously who required hospital treatment.
Det Insp Lee Wilson said the force's investigation had been "moving at pace".
"We will continue our inquiries until we have brought the people responsible before the courts, to be held accountable for their actions," he added.
