You can still use the friend safaris that are associated with any 3DS friend codes that you'd already registered before the 3DS servers went offline.
But I don't think that you can add any new friends now in order to get new safaris from them.

Also, since the third Pokémon in a friend safari only gets unlocked after that friend has become the Champion in their game, and since the servers which would track that are now down, nothing is updating that anymore. So any safari that you have which only has two Pokémon will be stuck on two forever.
I didn't trade with other people through the PSS until the very last couple of days when I realized I was still missing event-exclusive berries and Vivillon forms. Between the GTS finally letting you search for Pokemon you've never seen and me being gifted all 4 Gen 6 games I just never saw the need to use it. As a result I have practically no friend safaris at all.

Eventually the fans will figure out a way to put the 3DS back online, right? Right??

Pretty sure I heard of something like that, but it must be in it's infancy right now. I know DS games, Gen 4 and 5, do have a functioning GTS just not that many people using it. I traded an Arceus I caught from the Azure Flute event for a shiny Ariados that I will never use because Ariados is(sadly) garbage.

Not in later gens it isn't.

Just stick it on a trick room team if the speed is really that much of a turn-off. Otherwise make it hold a scope lense so it can abuse the sniper ability with cross poison and then fell stinger the shit out of the weaker opponents to jack-up it's attack.
Even with Swords Dance it just doesn't have enough attack to do much damage, it's speed isn't even the main problem. I think even Beedrill is more useful at a role a a bug/poison attacker.

I've used the fanmade GTS server myself to get some missing legendaries and starters in HeartGold. It's cool but it's also filled to the brim with hacked Pokemon, and some of those can probably brick a save file or cause bad eggs if you're not careful. They have a site that shows all Pokemon currently on their GTS and I remember seeing a Braixen there somehow.

Doesn't Super Mystery Dungeon have all of them too, or is it missing evolutions?
PSMD has all Pokemon from gens 1 to 6 except for Volcanion which wasn't officially revealed yet.

I've never had any trouble with the GTS Pokemon. If anything, I am hoping that the 3rd gen Pokemon I got from my recent ROMhacks won't give me a bad egg.

Aside from the occasional perfect IV shiny, I once got a very glitchy Electrode named -. It even showed up as the ? glitch Pokemon when I put it up back on the GTS to get rid of it. Fortunately nothing permanent happened from it, but it made me wary of the fan GTS.

It was likely one of the Missigno esque Pokemon that serve as placeholders. They still exist from Gen 1 days but are not as well known since there is no legit ways to obtain them. It should go without saying that you should only trade for Pokemon that look legit. At least Gen 4/5 GTS doesn't crash your game when you just hover over a hacked Pokemon, this made Gen 6/7 GTS literally unusable and the fix for this required a jailbroken 3DS

Well it appears that the rumors about the sale were true. Niantic has sold its gaming divsion, including Pokémon GO, for $3.5 billion.
Pokemon Go is no more, at least in the hands of Niantic. After a massive $3.5 billion deal, Pokemon Go, among other games like Monster Hunter Now have been sold to Monopoly Go creators, Scopely, and there are already major concerns.

Since its release back in 2016, Pokemon Go has gone from strength to strength, despite multiple community frustrations and the occasional dwindling playerbase. However, the time has come for change, as on March 12, 2025, Niantic announced its sale to Scopely.

While this certainly represents a new direction for the game, there are immediate concerns, particularly among long-time fans.

Shortly after the news broke, players took to social media to express their worries, with many hoping for “very little changes” in the game’s format, monetization, and overall design. Of course, a new publisher means we could see some changes.

Others are convinced this “might just be the beginning of the end” for the game, with the change not being particularly well-received among the community.

That being said, as part of the announcement, it was made clear that the development team behind Pokemon Go would be staying with the game, so if there were any changes, they may not be as intense as fans expect.

Interestingly, many players were quick to highlight the importance of Pokemon’s control over its IP. “Something to remember is that this isn’t just a Niantic thing commented one player, going on to explain that “the Pokemon Company is rabidly protective of their IP, and I would imagine that there are some pretty strong restrictions around what can and can’t be done with their license.”

However, with any major changes to game ownership, there will always be concerns, but what Pokemon Go’s future entails is anyone’s guess.
It's worth noting that Scopely also issued a message to the Pokémon GO, Pikmin Bloom, and Monster Hunter Now communities saying that the games will remain "the experiences you know and love" and that their committed to said communities but I'm extremely skeptical about it.

I'm seeing a new genre of pokemon scalper videos of guys cleaning out machines etc. Is the card game really still popular as a game or has it pretty much turned into a vanity hoarding and flipping commodity for adults? I was never into pokemon myself but I was under the impression that the card game had fallen off at least with actual kids.

Considering that Scopely also makes the WWE Champions game that DSP has whaled out on, GO will probably get worse for sure.
I’m inclined to agree but The Pokémon Company is insanely protective of their IP and Scopely is eventually going to have to report to them on any changes they make.

It's unfortunately the latter, just look at the secondhand market prices for some of the chase cards found in some sets.

But as far as the Pokémon Center vending machines are concerned there is some hope at seeing some normalcy, I'm hearing that there's a hard limit of two-items-per-person limit (which is supposedly upheld by CC info and through a hidden camera on the machine) and some store managers going so far as to criminally trespass scalpers from their stores.

was doing one of those event charcadet outbreaks because i always kind of wanted a shiny one, even though it's one of those shitty shinies where hardly anything changes (its eye color is inverted so instead of red eyes on armarouge, they're blue, and instead of blue eyes on ceruledge, they're red)

i caught seven

i'm running out of box space and i'm apparently too lazy to use pokebank. guess i'll have to start ughhhh
