A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.


But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

They can be a good raghead in their raghead land. The problem is that we've allowed race to get in the way of punishing people, no one cares when Whites commit crime because we prosecute them. When nons commit crime, every excuse and new ones will be made for why we can't prosecute them or why they receive lighter sentences for horrid crimes.

TL;DR: Most regular activity involving kids or adults who could be deemed vulnerable would require the charity to get a background check.

You might not need a check if you provide a service for a charity once, but if it is you every other week you would and it would raise some very big questions why they didn't.

In order to do this we need to stop, instantly, financially rewarding young women who intentionally choose single motherhood to maximize their benefits payments.

It simply should not pay more to be out of work, and to get spunked up by a complete stranger,who you have no intention of ever allowing to be part of your child's life, but it does and for uneducated women with no prospects or work ethic,this is the path they choose.

£837 a month and pressure to find work and prove you're looking vs getting pregnant and shitting out a bastard plus the non cash perks you get is a no brainer really. Instant entitlement to a council home, child benefits, day care for when you need a bit of "me time".

Making having children out of wedlock with an absent father has been a complete disaster for the social fabric of this country. I absolutely do not mean women who end up leaving abuse, or women whose partners die or leave them. I am very specifically talking about young girls who know a baby =££ and who go out and get knocked up by the first genetic slop bucket to throw them a ride.

Likewise the acceptance of young men will multiple children with scores of young women. I cannot fathom how anyone would want to go anywhere near such a man.

I can't help but feel that this is a tactic to try an induce in the polls what happened in Canada after Trump threatened his tariffs. In Canada, support for the Conservatives is falling somewhat due to the party leader's (perceived) alignment with Trump, and it's seeing a surge in the Canadian liberals, who fell to 20% at the start of December, but have now climbed back up to 30%. If Vance becomes a boogy man to the British electorate, then Starmer's show of putting him down (even though it was a blatant lie) will reflect positively on him and may help him out as far as polling and perception are concerned. And if Vance becomes president in 2028, and Starmer is still in, Labour will even use that to prove Starmer will be a strong foil to Vance whilst Reform wil kowtow and thus Labour should remain in power. This might all just be schizo babble though.

It blatantly is. Starmer has been trying to ride the Ukraine/US fall-out kerfuffle and position himself as a great statesman and a European Leader, but he's too autistic to actually pull it off. It gets him buttpats from twitter and reddit, but punters are still flocking to Reform, even after Farage's repeated attempts to eat his own feet. Whatever good work he might do, he'll still come across as a dullard with a weird voice and a disturbing affection for rich pakistani men.

Where did I say the millions of people who should die in this country are white, why the fuck would conscription involve a racially discriminative element? Never did before.

@BongoMongo I agree, this country needs to give out generous financial incentives for abortion. The abortion rate in the UK is far too low. Get more of the incoming poor scraped out before they become a burden on the welfare state, the education system, and the criminal justice system in that order.
 
Well turns out the coalition of the Willing may be the Coalition of the unwilling. The only country committed to sending troops is Starmer with Canada as "maybe". KEK

On top of that Starmer has implied that he will send troops in without a parliamentary vote. This posturing of being a "peacekeeper" and insertion of being the main character is frankly sad. The Iraq war was nearly a nail in the coffin for Labour in terms of votes, a lot of people even don't vote for it 20+ years later.

I have to admit I do not understand Starmer at all, he loves WEF but discards the core features of a political leader. He flip-flops his own party points. Is a charisma vacuum, makes decisions that endanger the preservation of his own party. He does not even understand geopolitics.

I thought Gordon Brown was batshit and indirectly evil but Starmer is up there. He is like a political lolcow because he just keeps providing so much entertainment, it would be funnier if we were not at his mercy.

He has inserted himself into an impossible situation now, where he will face consequences. Farage is a bridge to US relations and he handled Friday well. Reform bar Tice's retarded warbling is gaining members. I do think Ukraine will submit rather quickly and the clean up from this is going to be glorious.

If we're going by conscripting those who claims benefits then a lot of the recent "brits" coming into the country per capita are the highest receivers whilst not paying into it.
