He readily admits that movies like Bayformers and basically everything Roland Emmerich has put out are objectively not good movies, but he still enjoys them for what they are. I just watched Sanic 3 the other night, and while it's certainly hitting you over the head with the themes, it still manages to do so in a satisfying way. What honestly surprised me, especially in the age of Marvel bathos, was the sincerity of the payoff scene. No quips, no corny jokes, just Sonic and Shadow having a heartfelt conversation as they both come to learn a lesson. Imagine that: the character who's known for being a wisecracking goofball knows how to be sincere better than basically every character in the MCU! Is it high art? Hell no. But it still manages to clear a simple bar that most of the schlock Bob likes fails to.

I haven't seen the Mario movie, but from everything I've heard, it's basically an excuse plot to shove a bunch of references in your face, set to an out-of-place soundtrack, and any semblance of story is the most basic imaginable. Not really surprising considering the Mario games themselves have the barest of plots ("Bowser kidnapped the princess again!"), but still, the fact that Bob is willing to give such a barebones movie a glowing review while denigrating the Sonic movies that actually function more like movies goes to show he can't let go of his fanboy tendencies (see also: every time he lets the MCU slide with another mediocre product while lambasting DC (at least until James Gunn got the reins)).

And they can't hide their real desires and belief: There is no such thing as Free Speech, only a license to propagandize. If they don't like yours? They have the right to use any and all means to rip out your tongue. In fact? To prevent Nazis? It's practically their duty. They reportedly spent $360 million on the movie. Making $100 million is the equivalent of saying, "If you give me $3.60, I'll give you $1." Investors have every right to be furious over this kind of return.

That number is certainly lowballed going by all the reshoots and delays. And probably doesn't count costs that don't directly factor into production but still have to be made, like advertising.
That hunk of garbage has probably easily cost them $500 million by now.

It also got so delayed? People wondering where the toys and merch are (another cost not directly tied to production) are forgetting that they came out a year ago when the movie originally planned to release. Now that it's out for real? All that merch has been forgotten about and is stacking up in the backroom of your local Ollie's.

Just like the new Snow White, it's been known as "that movie taking forever to come out because they keep fucking it up" for so long? People don't even notice when it finally comes out for real.
