Not wrong really, the amount of people here and on the chans (at one point at least) despite the reddit types smugging and going "haha out of work neets haha incels haha" being just married dudes with various assorted jobs of all stripes is a not insignificant sum.
That's only a recent change. Most areas are still testing the waters on what conversations are allowed, and there is so many false narratives that it's still hard to determine what is factual. We are one of the last places to be documenting and archiving enough to have a decent grasp on reality.
I couldn't say what wider influence it may have had, but thank you for not giving up on the site when things were way worse. I've been lurking a lot longer than my join date implies (I only got pushed over the edge to join because there were like three things on front page features at once that I couldn't see without an account) and I found the discussion and archiving very valuable through a lot of the 2020 insanity.

back when youtube first started him and his brother were huge, way back in the 10 minute limit era, before reaction channels or Pewdiepie. Like they created VidCon, which was youtube's de facto convention. like a dozen years ago they had the top 100th channel on youtube, plus thanks to vidcon they had a fuck load of connections with other youtubers, they were very big fish in the small pond that was youtube in those days. if you check back their videos and fanbase hasn't really grown from a dozen years ago.
the Green brothers were very big on social media sites, especially tumblr when it first launched they basically burrowed further into their ideology but they were always very tumblr heavy in their politics.
its such an awful cover too, in general time magazine's quality has dropped hard, when thanks to AI any fucker can make a better cover in under a minute, you need to step up your game.
